NocturnalRapport

We have had two male guinea pigs housed together indoor since they were babies. They have often had the odd falling out but all is usually forgiven in 10 minutes or so.

Yesterday however, I put them outside on the grass for a couple of hours and they seemed fine. Then I brought them back inside, put them in their cage and the more dominant pig (Angel) just started to attack Chocolate. Kept mounting him and rumbling at him.

I assumed it was just a little falling out but it carried on and escalated to the point where he was literally chasing him around the cage, biting him, mounting him, teeth chattering ... chocolate tried to fight back now and again but that just intensified it. At one point, they started to literally fight.

I put a divider in the cage and assumed they'd calm down after an hour or so of being seperated and whilst chocolate seemed relieved to get some peace ... angel just went absolutely nuts and trashed his half of the cage - knocked the food bowl flying, threw the tunnel into the air, dug up all the sawdust ... he seemed possessed! :{

Anyway this all went on from around 6pm until 11pm. At 11pm I took away the divider as both seemed settled ... and angel just went for him again straight away.

In the end, we had to seperate them overnight.

Is that it then? no turning back for them? Or is there a chance they could make up again after this? What do I do?

Once blood is drawn, it's usually over and your boys are better off living side by side with some mesh to divide them.

If you want to give it one more try, please follow the tips I have collected in this thread - you'd best do the whole gamut of bathing and introductions on neutral ground, scrub down and rearrange the their living quarters etc. for best results. Please wait at least a day or two in order to help them settle down.
