I am really angry with myself today - last night I was swapping over the gps, as they each get time in the runs for 2 nights while i clean their beds out which takes 2 days cos i have to wash all the bedding - last night was no different, but for about 10 minutes i was hoovering our bedroom floor and then went in the next bedroom and Samson had got into Louis and Lucy run and was humping Louis the male - I am hoping to god that he didn't get Lucy - I got Lucy from a breeder who had several litters and is now over 3 and we got her so she could have a peaceful life with a neturered boar Louis - Samson had managed to unclip one of the clips. I have a large run which is divided in the middle into two for these gps and they have always been like this for ages, and never had a problem - I am keeping my fingers bloody crossed that he didn't get Lucy as I dont want babies and I would be really gutted for Lucy - what are the chances that he could have gotten lucy and would after one hump she would get pregnant? She was hiding in the house, but I just dont know if Samson was in there for 10 minutes or 2 minutes - suppose all i can do is pray he didn't get to her :-(

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions, but I have my fingers crossed for you.
Don't be too hard on yourself. These things happen. He sounds like one determined pig. He'd probably been planning his mission impossible for weeks.

Aw, poor Lucy. Hopefully Louis got in the way before Samson spotted her. Finger's firmly crossed that she's okay.

Well there is nothing to be done but put her on pregnancy watch hun, the boys didn't ruck did they?

As you know it only takes a second for the dirty deed to be done when it comes to a determined Boar, try not to worry hun just keep an eye on her.

no all i can do is wait - sorry to sound stupid, when you say did the boys ruck, what does that mean?!

Fingers crossed that she will be ok and that he just took a wee fancy to Louis.

I remember a girl at work telling me that she major problems when she used to keep guinea pigs - one of her boars used to get to the highest point in his cage and actually, fly/jump over into the girls cage. She says it was incredible and a total wonder he never hurt himself!

I think she meant fight.

ah right! As far as I can see they didn't fight, as I checked them both over for any signs of blood / wounds and not a scratch. I did check Lucy over too to see if I could see any signs of sperm or anything on her bits, but nothing, though you probably wouldn't see anything anyway, but I checked just in case I could see something.

I did mean fight hun sorry I really need to use proper english more often:red

I'm glad there were no signs of a fight between the boys.

Just keep your eye on her and see how she goes and try not to worry hun.

It wasn't your fault some piggies can be very determined! Fingers and paws crossed here that she isn't pregnant! :)

Determined boars have a way of surprising you...

The chances of Lucy actually becoming pregnant are pretty low; so stop panicking! You will most likely have espcaped just with the fright!

The fact that Samson was humping Louis and not chasing Lucy would strongly indicate that she was not and nowhere near in season. Had that been the case, the boars would have been fighting and been a lot more aggressive!

Sows come into season every 15-17 days for about a day, but are only ready to mate for about 2-4 hours at the end of it - the odds are therfore very small if they were together for only a matter of minutes.

thank you, everything you said about the sows coming into season every 15-17 days I didn't even know that, so you have made me feel not so paranoid!

Don't blame yourself hun. These things happen. Like Wiebke said, it is probably very unlikely that Lucy isn't pregnant. Just keep an eye on her and I shall keep my fingers crossed x

Keep it at the back of your mind, but don't fret yourself to death!

Just for your information, so you know what to look out for:
First signs of pregnancy are: increased thirst, noticeable and steady weight gain, especiall round the middle, and the nipples getting longer and swollen looking - so have a look at them now (or even take a picture for reference). You should probably notice the first signs in a month to six weeks at the earliest, not before. A pregnancy lasts about 10 weeks.

Make sure that you feed peppers and parsley regularly, as pregnant females need double the amount of vitamin C., just to be on the safe side. At those levels you are not likely to overdose; any excess gets shunted out.

As I said before, your chances are about 1-2%!
