I have recently noticed Annie squeak very loudly and then spasm as if she's in pain, I think when she is going to the toilet. I took her along to the vet yesterday (who wasn't my usual vet, but still quite knowledgeable). She tested Annie's urine sample I took and it came up fine, although she said it may be a 'silent infection'. She felt her bladder and said it was unusually hard which meant it could be thickened due to cystitis? Or possibly be bladder stones. I have been given a 10 day course of septrin for her and then she's to go back to be checked again. Does anyone have any experience of this 'hard' bladder?

This is my Annie :) (Just about to get her nails trimmed)

oh no, hope shes ok and its not the dreaded stones. those nails lol eeeeek at least they are good for seeing where to chop

Awww Annie x) bless her, so many bladder problems lately with piggies. If the septrin doesn't clear it up or if she gets worse then I'd get an X-ray done to rule out stones. Did the vet culture the urine or just test it for blood with a dipstick?

Putt one of our first piggies had an inflamed bladder wall and she was treated with cartrophen injections and metacam to help reduce the inflammation. The thickening of the bladder wall showed up on an ultrasound scan.

I'm not sure, they looked at protein, blood and other things. She did say if she doesn't get better then it's best to get an x ray. My poor Annie :( she's a very nervous piggy. What was wrong with Putt to cause an inflamed/thickened bladder?

I hate cutting nails but hers are very easy, and she's well behaved. My OH (The one who holds them) wears gardenings gloves as a couple of the piggies are nippers when it comes to nail cutting :p

She's adorable- hope she feels better soon! I've been dealing with UTIs with my girls lately too- one for Linney in September and Sundae was just diagnosed with one last week. It sucks- I know. Good luck cutting the nails- my most hated piggie chore. Linney cries and makes me feel guilty, Sundae tries to bite my fingers!

Annie had her checkup yesterday. Urine was tested again and all came up fine. I haven't heard her squeak recently which is good, and the vet said her bladder felt normal so she is now not worried about her. She thinks she had cystitis however she should be 'watched' as she could be prone to it. Hurrah! No bladder stones.
