Another bladder stone?

How funny - I bought exactly the same from Sainsburys and Charlie loves it too. Definitely easier to get down him than water or cranberry juice!

Yes, he's still squeaking :( Spoke to the vet today and we're going back in the morning, possibly for another scan. Fingers crossed there's no second stone...

Hope Yossi is getting on ok

x

Hope that Charlies scan goes well, ive got my fingers crossed.

I also bought the same juice and Gizmo isnt much of a fan of it, but he does seem to be drinking more now. :)

Best wishes, Sam x

Thanks Sarah. I'm glad Charlie also likes the juice. Good luck with his appointment in the morning - keep us posted x

Sam, shame Gizmo isn't overly fussed with the juice but it's great that he's drinking more - that's the main thing x

Charlie has got another bladder stone plus a few tiny ones in his urethra :( The vet said she can flush the little ones back into the bladder and remove them along with the bigger one. After that she suggests starting him on a homeopathic remedy straightaway to prevent more from forming (couldn’t remember the name but is going to let me know) because change of diet alone obviously isn’t helping.

She's going to operate tomorrow morning. I’ve agreed although I feel really bad for putting him through it again so soon (one month after the first operation). I do hope he’ll be ok. Part of me still wonders whether I should go through with it or not but I can’t imagine putting him to sleep when he’s completely fine in himself (plus it wasn't mentioned anyway).

Poor boy :(

I'm sorry your little boy has got to have another op. Best wishes and hugs to both of you. Will keep everything crossed. x

Sorry to hear that Charlie has more stones, i will be thinking about you both tomorrow.

Best wishes for tomorrow.

Sorry to hear he needs another op. I know it's obviously a worrying time but it's great that your Vet sounds willing to try new things. Really hope all goes well tomorrow for you both x

I spoke to Vedra at CCT a couple of days ago as I'm having similar problems with Spike. She told me about a guinea pig who had 3 bladder stones in 5 months. She started putting the piggy on a massage pad twice a day for 20 minutes. Apparently the vibrations in the bladder stop the stones from forming. The piggy hasn't had a stone in 18 months. She's tried this with a few pigs now so suggested it would be worth giving it a go. I'm not sure if he'll like it but I've just won a neck massage pad on Ebay for a few pounds so thought I'd give it a try. Just waiting for it to arrive - it just vibrates, not heats up although he might like having a warm bum I wasn't sure that would be safe!
Might be something worth trying once he's had his op. Hope all goes well. All fingers and paws crossed for him.

Sorry to hear he does have more stones. Something to consider, you mention change in diet, do you know what the water hardness in your area is? Switching to filtered water instead of just tap water can make a difference, if you haven't already. (Mine are really not keen on unfiltered tap water now, it does also seem so much fresher when filtered!)

Fingers crossed his surgery goes well, do let us know when you hear how it went. xx

That's interesting... wonder how she thought of trying that out? Let me know how you get on and if he minds sitting on it!

Yes, water could be playing a part in it so I'll definitely switch to filtered water in future.

It's horrible waiting for a call from the vet :(

I shall. Oh yes and Vedra suggested low calcium water as well. Bottled water with under 10% calcium. I've not managed to find any in Sainsburys so will be off to Tesco.

Charlie had his operation on Friday and is back home :) I was out all day yesterday so asked them to keep him until this morning.

The stones were removed ok and although he's looking skinny, he's doing well and is eating lots of hay. He's on antibiotics, painkillers and cystopurin and will be starting a homeopathic remedy next week when he goes back for his checkup.

Will be doing everything possible to prevent more stones. No more operations please! Two in one month is enough...

Really glad to hear that all went well for little Charlie. I really hope that he heals up quickly and that you find a treatment regime that works, so he can stay stone-free.

If you don't mind me asking, did you decide not to try Uriflow? And which homeopathic remedy are you going to try? My Vet mentioned Hydrangea Root Tincture when we thought Yossi might have stones. I'd be very interested to know how you get on. Best wishes x

I haven't been on here for a while, but just to update... Charlie recovered well from his operation. Now it's just a matter of preventing yet more stones from forming. My vet agreed that Uriflow was worth a go so he's on that twice a day, together with 3x15ml daily of juice/bottled water, Cystapure, and a controlled diet.

Fingers crossed they don't come back. I wouldn't be happy putting him through a third operation. Although he's recovered really well from the two he's had already, he's now only just over 900g despite always being a big chunky boy and has also developed arthritis in his knees. Poor boy :(

I am so glad that your boy has come through both his ops well; I sadly lost my Minx after her second bladder stone operation and wish that I had known the forum then; perhaps that could have prolonged her life!

I hope that you can prevent any more stones from forming.

Glad to hear that he has recovered from his second op and i hope that he dosent get anymore stones.

Just out of interest was your vet ok with the suggestion of using uriflow and where did you get it from? As Gizmo still squeaks on occasions when weeing and the vets wants me to keep him on metacam as he has some arthritis in his back leg which he thinks maybe causing it, but i am going to speak to him soon again about it and may mention it, but i dont know if it would help with him as his urine is clear and no stones. mallethead

:)

Yes I showed my vet the article on Uriflow and she agreed it was worth a try. You have to buy it from the US but I bought a half-used tub from Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas.

If Gizmo has arthritis then you might like to try him on Potter's Tabritis tablets (see Peter Gurney's website: http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/oldage.htm) I've seen them in Boots and am going to get some today to try out.

Thanks i will look out for them the next time I'm in boots as I'm not sure if i can use them alongside the metacam too.

:)
