Hello!

In a few weeks, i will be forced to split up my guinea pigs to different houses for personal reasons. Their names are Ted and Fred and i will be keeping Ted. My question is if I should get Ted another companion or just let him live alone since he will no longer have his best bud. He is about half a year old, give or take. Any advice helps, thanks!

Hi, not sure on your personal reasons, but if you are considering getting another, it stands to reason that you should keep the bonded pair together. If another person is involved and thats the reason for splitting the pigs (not fishing none of my business) you could either request both pigs stay with you or both stay with the other person.

Unfortunately neither of those options are possible and it does involve another person. What should i do in this case?

If the boys are bonded then if at all possible it is far better to try and keep them together.
Would it be possible that one of the people involved would be willing to let them stay together?
I know this is a hard decision for the people who love Ted and Fred, but if you want to put the welfare of your guinea pigs first then it is also the kindest decision.

To put some perspective in it here, alls it takes for the piggies to have their best freind stay with them is for the one of you to be the bigger person. If the other person will let you keep them both do that, if not then if i was you, I would request that the other person keep both as splitting them up because of a human problem is cruel.

I won't go into detail, but I'm sure many people on this forum have experinced personally difficult decisions involving children and seperation, and at a certain point the well being of the kids must come before any negativity you or the other person hold for each other.

I do feel for you though and realise this is probably a really difficult time, my advice would be don't make snap decisions, take time (15 mins at least) before responding to messages from the other person, give your self a chance to make a calm and sensible decision. I really hope it works out for you.

Follow up question. If we keep them togtoget and one of them past away, is it better to keep the other one alone or get him another pal eventually.
