BB was back at the vets today (she was there on Saturday for an eye scratch) as on Sunday evening I felt a small lump behind her front right leg whilst holding her for her eye drops. I wasn’t tooo worried (but lumps are always a concern) because I could feel it was small and it wasn’t attached to anything, if that makes sense. But I rang up this morning and had an apt this afternoon. Saw Djordje the ‘practice principle’ (is that head vet?) who also saw BB towards the end of her mite issue earlier in the year and he said that it was an ‘ok’ lump; small, smooth, only skin deep and not attached to anything. He said he was very impressed I noticed it at all and is happy for me to keep an eye on it and if it gets any bigger to bring her in and they’ll take it out. Explained that they offer a very discounted rate for guinea ops as a lot of people wouldn’t pay the full rate for a guineapig (and he apologised if that sounded callous). I said if she needs it, I’d pay it! He didn’t charge for the appointment either as they’d seen her so recently and he only had a little feel.

I love my vets.

Betsy has a couple of lumps. The main one is about 3mm across and is on her back near her shoulder it isn't stuck to anything and moves around like a ganglion (a cyst on the nerves). The other one is under her right armpit and is about 2mm across and is moveable. They haven't grown in around 18 months - 2 years. They were quite hard to find as she has so much hair! The vet isn't worried about them so neither am I. :)

They sound pretty similar - fingers crossed B’s doesn’t grow either !

Hope BB's lump doesn't become a problem.
Merab had a lump on her tummy for much of her life and it never bothered her

Dot has a sort of half a pea size lump that moves around on her left side near her ribs. Vet isnt worried either. It hasnt grown in a year

Well BB’s lump is growing. Not quickly, and it still feels all the same, just a bit bigger, so we’re back the vets on Monday to see if they think it needs to come out now or if it can wait a bit as it’s still really small - it just started off really really small! Of course I am worried about the prospect of surgery but I know that she’s not getting any younger and maybe if it needs to come out at some point, now is as good a time as any. But we’ll see what the professionals think!

Hopefully just a little sebaceous cyst, my Orca has one above her eye/on her forehead, the vet isn't keen to remove it due to her age (6ish) & it's position.
I just clean it out a little about once a week, it's got a scab on it now, she's had it for years with no real bother otherwise.

Good luck at the vets tomorrow.
Fingers & paws all crossed here for BB, let us know how she gets on
Xx

Vet agreed that as it has grown, it should come out sooner rather than later as it is likely to keep growing. So BB is booked in for surgery tomorrow with the lovely Laura who has four of her own. Taking all three so she’ll have company once she’s come round. Didn’t expect it to be so soon, but kinda glad as it gives me less time to overthink it and worry!

One another related note, one of the nurses on reception had guineapig converses! They were epic.

Hope all goes well tomorrow.
It's stressful while waiting so keep yourself busy.

Holding you and BB in my thoughts

Thanks, I’m going for a horse ride as soon as I’ve dropped them off so hopefully that’ll take my mind off it a bit!

She’s home. And quite cross! She jumped out of the carry box (into my arms) and squirmed all the way into the cage where dashed to the BigHouse and gave me evils whilst munching on a stalk of hay. She didn’t even break the evils to take the lettuce peace-offering from me, just snatched it and swore at me!

Feisty is good. Hope she has a comfortable night.

So glad it all went well.
Love the attitude.
Hope she has a good night and you feel more relaxed

Not yet! In a few days I will. I’d like to see her eating again. Just been in and she’s hiding in her bendy tube and won’t come out.

Nipped back after after I’d been to the loo and she’s in a different house, ran to the BigHouse when I tried to stoke her and took a tiny bit of carrot and ate it

This week was not a good week to put a brand new and fully-extended bendy tube in the girl’s cage. I had to hide and wait for BB to remove herself from it and remove it from the cage in order to catch her.
She didn’t particularly take to the metacam. Took some syringing, putting on cucumber and more syringing to finally get it all in and I *think* by the end she may have kinda got the idea it was tasty so hoping for an easier time tomorrow! Chewie, however, was staging a riot that she wasn’t getting any! She was biting on the bars and throwing bedding at us!
Starting weighing BB daily, just to make sure. She’s ‘lost’ 27g since her last weigh, but it was a week and a half ago and at a totally different time of day, so that’s ok. We’ll start from here!

On another note, my OH just called me in to the bathroom only to look at an enormous spider on the floor. Really? Just before bed? Thanks.

A loss of 27g is ok for a post op piggy.
Micah lost 90g but soon put it all back on and more!

Hope BB continues to recover.

Thanks, she’s gone down a bit more this morning, total of 40g since her last pre-op weigh. She is eating, every time I go in she is munching on hay, which is good. She doesn’t like taking the metacam. She keeps putting her little paw on the syringe and pushes it away :-(
