It doesn't seem to be lasting all day and Barbra can seem in pain in the evening (she gets her dose in the morning). Having spoken to the vet we are going to split the dose; does anyone have any experience with doing this?
our next step if this doesn't help is to double her dose

I was giving Magic a dose in the morning and another one 12 hours later. I've also done this with my other piggies. Hope your piggie get better.:...

I'm giving Bubbles metacam at the moment too, he has 0.4ml twice a day, seems to be working like that.

what does that equate to on the metacam syringe? my vet told me to make sure I use the metacam syringe only as the doses are differnent to the normal syringes.
Anything that helps her feel better I will try as the only other option is pts when the metacam stops working. 8...

sorry forgot to add that I hope it helps and Barbra feels more like herself soon xx

sadly the prognosis is not good for Barbra, we are keeping her comfortable for as long as we can - she has a mass in her bladder 8...

oh no that doesn't sound good. Bless her x

Just checked my syringe and i got it wrong earlier, the measure I give is just below the 3rd line not the fourth. Sorry about that.

i have seen on here that other people have tramadol for their piggies, i know its a powerful painkiller, can you ask the vet about that?

Hope you can get her comfy and can enjoy whatever time you have left together.

Sorry to hear Barbra is poorly. We used to split the dose into 2 for our piggie 'Putt' and when she was in more pain the vet gave us the safe dossage ranges to work within.
She had a dose in morning and a dose at night. She was on metacam long term until she passed away.

There are a few other pain killers piggies can have so worth chatting to the vet regarding this, the main thing is making the time you have left together pain free as mentioned several forum members have had sucess with tramadol.

We used to draw the metacam from out the metacam bottle using a 1ml sryinge then dilute with water in a seperate medicine bottle - to make up a supply for a few days, this saves using the dropper the provide with it...
There are 2 different strengths of metacam so the vet can give you the correct maximum dossage range for Barbara for the metacam they have gave you for Barbra.

Lots of love to your little girl x

Perhaps discuss Tramadol with your vet long term it is less damaging to the kidney's, I consider it the reason my Patrick's still with me metacam didn't touch his pain he's been on it for between 4 and 6 months now I think.

He's been on Tramadol (Opium pain killer) - recently they brought it out in liquid form. Patrick's dose is 5mg's twice daily. We have had no negative effects, it's a miracle drug as far as I'm concerned as said on previous threads Patrick has abnormalities within the bladder, his bladder wall is chronically inflamed more recently he had 3 stones. Yet to look at him now you would think there's nothing wrong.
