I brought home my 2 8/9 week old piggies on last thursday (July 21st) once i got them home i noticed one had a small sore spot under his arm.. Off to the vets friday, were they said it may be due to fighting, or mites, however she ordered the mite treatment which i collected and gave to both piggies on saturday, i think it was Xeno 50 spot on, I cleaned out their cage on monday. However the vet also said about a 4 week injection teatment. This evening i have noticed the sore spot has got a little bigger, and have also found two much smaller sore patches. My other semi-long haired one is fine, not a single sore spot on him..
I was just wondering how long i should leave the spot on treatment to take some affect before taking them back to the vet, and also if anyone knew roughly the price of the injection treatment, just so i can keep some money aside just incase.

Oh no poor you! Where did you get the piggy from? It is bad the previous owner did not know he had mites. :(

Not again! I cannot believe all I am hearing about them. How awful they have guinea pigs with mites. The poor things are not being treated. Will you go back and tell them what happened? They need to give you money for the treatment.

Yeah, I was going to wait to see if i need the injections, then get them to pay for it.. hopefully they will. There is no way I'm taking the boys back, even to be treated

I agree. Do not take them to that awful place were they will be neglected. Thank goodness they will have a happy home with you now.

awww, thanks :) lets just hope they arent going to cost me too much in vet bills :p poor things, they both seem happy, bright and everything, while watching them in their run, he doesnt seem to be bothering it, so I'm not too worried by it at the moment. I just hope they get better, i hate the thought of giving them injections at only 8 weeks old :(

I know. Poor little babies. It is better though as they will be in pain and discomfort from all the bites they are getting. I hope it goes soon.

so, does anyone have any ideas how long i should leave it before going back to the vets? and any ideas for prices? :) or even if there are any shampoos that could help?

Hi there - if you contact Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas (www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk) she will be able to offer advice. One point to check is that it is defo mites as it could be fungal which is also common. Chrissie has loads of shampoos and creams that bring the guineas up beautifully and help with all sorts of itchy problems, but you need to take advice to make sure they are suitable for mini-pigs. Also if it is mites, you do need to continue with the vets..

Hope this helps

Thank you :) Dont worry, they are both deffently going back to the vets :) just wasnt sure how long to give the spot on a chance, as its £20+ just for a consult

Make sure you keep all the vet receipts, for visits, treatment etc, & then photocopy them (keep the copies) & take the vet bills to P@H & get them to reimburse you; apparently they do usually do this without any problem, probably because there have been so many complaints rolleyes although I've not set foot in the place myself as I am on a one-woman-boycott at the mo lol! :))
