Well, I just left another Guinea Pig Facebook page. The first one I left a few months ago deleted my post advising someone to read at some guidelines here in the forum. Admin said no link posting are allowed, irregardless of what the link is. So I left.

This time, a member of another group posted photos of her guinea pigs wearing some knitted shirt she made for piggies. A couple of other members told them the consequences of letting piggies wear clothes and it's not needed. Some responses are just dismissing it. The OP even was rude and said she knows her piggies best and her vet said it's fine to dress them. There was quite a lot of post and no admin was telling whether he/she supports such thing anyway. So I just left the group. It's a shame coz the group was setup by a known rescue. So I better not annoy myself more with it.

I was in a Facebook group and left after some of the posts on there were...encouraged. I’m only on here as I also didn’t like the things on reddit. You’ll have less stress now. As for that poster, they were probably rude because they knew they were wrong. I doubt any decent vet would have told her it’s okay to dress them up. Particularly in something they could get their nails caught in!

It's just such a shame coz you wanted to offer them advice but often it's being chucked off as useless info for them. Yeah the piggy is healthy but then why is he/she doing stuff that may potentially harm them? 🤷‍♀️ Just last week a few of us advised another member about how small the cages are. One is kept in a size of hamster cage and 2 others in another small cage from petshops. She keeps on saying the cages are not small and they only stay there during bed time and feeding time and they roam their living room the whole day.

Oh well. I better stop joining groups like that. I only thought it was good coz as I said, it was setup by a known rescue and the admin sent an invite.

Hopefully they will take on the advise if it’s repeated several times. Did the admin step in for posts like that? Quite disappointing if not, maybe they didn’t have time. Who knows. But yes it’s frustrating.

The one with the small cages, the admin did, saying they are in contact with that owner and that she is on a "special" circumstance because of the lock down and such. Although I've seen yesterday that the owner posted again boasting that her cages aren't small and basically saying that those people saying it's wrong keeping her piggies in too small cages don't get it. 🤷‍♀️

Funny how the majority is wrong and she’s right. As I said, protesting too much perhaps? 🤨

That's what I thought too. She posted a few times about showing her cages for 2 weeks and I commented on her first post, advising her. But she kept on posting and since some are commenting about too much "guinea pig cage police" are just out to get her or over the top (for the lack of how I can exactly describe it) and just do what she does, I think she's getting the satisfaction that she's right and the advise people are saying is not warranted. 🤷‍♀️

Some just like to follow the crowd. You wonder if they’d like to be hemmed in with only room to turn and walk one step from one side to the other. Makes you wonder why they get them.

I’ve left almost every Facebook GuineaPig group I’ve ever joined because I just felt so stressed by the responses I read and felt so out of step with many other members. The internet has made everyone an expert and there are too many keyboard warriors for my liking

I know. I love Facebook mind you. It's a great place for me to contact my family and friends in the Philippines and wherever in the world they are. I think I would just stick to my book club group/pages. At least we all talk about books there and not the welfare of guinea pigs. This forum is where I can get that interest.

I have a hard time with Facebook groups as well. I am in 2 and I only look at them if I’m in the mood to educate. I hate seeing so much mistreatment on Facebook groups. But, I figure if even just one person takes my advice, then that’s at least one piggy living in better conditions. I come here to chat with other responsible guinea pig owners/lovers and it is so wonderful to have this forum. I’ve resourced it long before I joined!

I too usually just comment when the situation really needed some appropriate advise or if not many answered a question. Most of the time when I can be bothered to be honest. But seeing posts with so many dismissing the advise given by concerned people and some even take it as bullying or not needed, well I can't handle it and it really frustrates me. So in the end, I just end up leaving the groups. Too many people would jump on you just because you said something they don't want to hear. 🤷‍♀️

I completely understand that. When it comes to the ganging up on what they don’t like to hear I just turn my notifications off for the post. If they don’t take my advice then although I’m sad for their pig I can’t do much about it.

Some of these stupid owners should go out and buy a dolly if they want to play at dressing up, it makes me fume!
