We were contacted about a stray pig living in someone's garden, it was hiding in some very dense, low growing conifers. Worried about the risk of cats, foxes and very wet weather, we borrowed a humane rabbit trap from our food supplier and set it up. In the evening we got a call from the lady who owned the garden, he had been caught. We called him Juniper and amazingly after advertising found out who the owner's were. They were on holiday for 6 weeks and but a relative called us, we offered to keep him until they came home, however 8 weeks later we Had still heard nothing. We finally managed to contact the owner's, they turned up he had been bought for the 4 year old daughter, was allowed to run loose in the garden and was biting. They were genuinely shocked that he hadn't bitten us and that he had a reasonable sized hutch and run. They then decided they didn't want him back, so he is now part of the family. I hope to get him castrated and a become a bit less panicky about being handled.

Good for you!

I can't believe how careless some people are. Little Juniper must have done extremely well to survive and is a lucky boy to be at home with you now who understands his needs.

Goodness only knows what they were doing to make him bite. Most of my pigs have a little nibble now and again but a real bite is nearly unheard of unless they are ill or terrified.

so glad you get to keep juniper, sounds like he was nt really wanted by his first owners anyway! so how many guineas have you got now then?

I know, I've never had a guinea pig bite, and although very skitterish he has never shown any signs of trying to bite.
He had a very sore nose when he arrived and is a bit lean, he is a lovely ginger with a bit of White, he seems to have a wee crest too.

We have 7 guineas at the moment, a pair of boys, 2 mixed sex pairs and Juniper.

Where do these people get their logic from?!

Juniper is a great name :) He's a very lucky pig to be rescued from such mean people!

That's pretty bad! Kinda shows the attitude they had toward him then I think( plus a bit of four year-old thrown in)

Well live strong Juniper, your in good hands now. Lets have some pigtures of the lovely new boy too if we can!

My 4 year old wanted to call Luigi Fat boy :)):))

A volunteer was telling someone about Juniper and this person was apparently interested in taking Juniper on- as a companion to their aggressive female rabbit. Our volunteer told her that we didn't rehome and that we do not advise putting rabbits and guineas together but I would likely advise she speys the rabbit and gets a neutered male rabbit as a companion.

I know the person, so I know they will not spey, they do not vaccinate......so what makes them think I would ever consider rehoming to them!

Are people really that ignorant of what is considered good animal care!

That is terrible! People really are clueless and selfish when it comes to animals. Any chance of a photo?:)
