I too have a sick piggie, Bambi (pic in avatar) went for her usual claw clipping today and the nurse noticed a lump under her chin which i had missed! she does not like to be handled much and she gets very stressed when i try, i could kick myself for not seeing this though :(

Anyway, she saw vet later in the day and he said it is either an abscess or tumour, he can't be sure so she is going in on monday to be sedated to either lance or remove it, it is hardish but a little soft if that makes sense and does not appear to be attached to anything, my worry is the sedation or anaesthetic as i know small animals don't cope well with it, i lost a rabbit from the anaesthetic a few years ago:(

i shall look at the other thread posted today and will report back when i know more, i may need some tips on after care:...

Wishing Bambi all the best! Please do not beat yourself up about not noticing. These things can come up incredibly quickly! I hope that it is "just" an abscess.

i know how you feel as I feel so bad about my piggy too, but it's not an easy place to spot a lump. I hope your piggy is ok today and gets through it ok. When my piggy came home i was in tears as he looked so poorly, but an hour on his heat pad and some fav treats he soon perked up and was back to his normal self in hours. Anisthetic is always such a huge worry but the risk has to be taken to make them better.. good luck!

Bambi is back home and the op went well, it was an abcess and the vet removed it so she has had a general. She is very sleepy still and has not eaten yet, if she has not eaten by tomorrow she will have to go back, apparently there system stops working if they go without food for a couple of days which i didn't know so fingers crossed. She is also seperated from the other 2 girls for a few days which they won't like:...

Thought i would give a little update on Bambi, she was doing ok but things not so good today. A couple of days after the removal the vet said there was a little fluid build up in the space where the abscess was but he didn't seem concerned, it was like a baggy loose sack under her chin, but now it appears to be full and swollen so i am going to try to get her back to see the vet, has anyone had experience with this? i don't know what to expect!

My Ziggy piggy had an abscess removed from under her chin this year, she was prescribed the antibiotic Zithro-max by Simon at the Cat & Rabbit clinic & she recovered really well. Try to ask your vet for that antibiotic as it has very good results :)

Thanks Poppy'smum

She was on anti b's all last week and pain meds :) we saw the vet today and he is 99% sure it is just fluid and should go down within a couple of weeks but he gave her another weeks worth of anti'b's just in case so fingers crossed all will be well soon:)

Keep a close eye on it. I had a piggie who had a lump removed from her neck and the space where the lump had been filled with fluid. It enlarged very quickly and soon stopped her eating. Simon aspirated the fluid with a needle and immediately she started to eat again. It must've been very uncomfortable for her and as soon as it had gone she picked up. It didn't refill again.

Yes it was removed, in one contained lump from what i understand, he stitched it from inside so no stitches showing which is great, a very neat job :) I will keep an eye on her and she will be straight back if she stops eating, thanks :)
