Just had a call from a lady who had two of my baby boars, almost two and a half years ago. She has always kept in touch and Tickles and Tigger frequently come to visit when the family goes on holiday. Funnily enough she called me a few weeks ago to tell me she had found some "lumps" on Tigger and wanted to know if I had come across this problem with any of my gang. She took him to our cavy savvy vet and was told they were nothing sinister and were best left well alone - he has been fine. This morning she got up to find that Tickles had very shallow and laboured breathing (having apparently been fine the day beforeand - indoor pigs, so with the family all the time) frantically rang the vet at 7am to arrange an urgent appointment. Unfortunately, before they could get him to the vet Tickles passed away at home. I feel so sorry for them all (their first loss) and I also feel dreadful as he was one of my "first babies".
They are worried sick about Tigger and have cleaned and disinfected his cage thoroughly and the vet has suggested giving him a course of antibiotics "just in case". Although the boys were not particularly close Tigger is now calling for his brother. What is happening to all these little furballs at the moment? Roll on spring and some warmer weather.
