trufflepig

I really do want to get truffle a friend but am so scared ( we think he is a boy) and i have read in lots of places that boys fight together :/ I don't really want a female and get her sprayed,

Any ideas/help ?

thank you :) xx

hi how old is truffle?
to boars (boys) tend to fight but they can be bonded together barny4boars has done it before i have never managed it but an adult male can take to a baby boy pig
or you could try a rescue centre fo a female piggy as sometimes they have females that are already spayed
good luck with what ever you decide

To be honest i am not sure how old he is, i think he is about 5-6 months old, but not 100% sure :/ i am not 100% its even a boy ! i have posted a picture in the hope someone with more experience can help me :)

Thank you willowflower :)

I have always had pairs of boars, and right now have 5 boars living in the same pen.It can be done,.

If you take Truffle to a rescue they will sort you out a boar that they think is going to be compatable.Age does not seem to matter,it is the temperament of the piggy.

Whereabouts are you? There are lots of rescues around and one has spayed sows. As Mary says age doesn't matter, its a personality thing :) I prefer to pair adults as their characters are developed and they let you know there and then if they're gonna get on ::)

I am in Birmingham in the west Midlands :) Have been looking around for rescue centres but don't seem to be able to find any with guinea pigs !

Thank again everyone :)

I know of a fair few people that have bonded boars before :) Please dont be put off maybe if you rescued a piggie you could take your pig to a rescue to see if you could bond your little lad with a fellow boy? Could you not get your boy neutered?

It'd be better to get your boy castrated then get him a female...doesnt matter if she spayed, as long as your boy is castrated!

I'm in Walsall and have a very placid 2 year old male coming in who has lived with a male guinea pig before. However, my first bit of advice would be to take a trip to the vet and get your guinea pig properly sexed. If you make a mistake, we would not want to be responsible for an unwanted litter.

Good advice there Lucy :)

I really hope you can get your piggie a friend soon :smitten:

If you don't want to get your boy castrated then Rugby Rescue spay their sows, I would advise taking your boy along though and making sure they both get on.
