So, in petting Seth today, I noticed a rather large scab like area on his back. Guess my daughter hasn't been checking them as well as she said she had. I immediately put the Conzol on it and he squealed. I guess they don't like it. I know for sure we cleaned the cage and we did not separate them so that is my fault. Great. Now someone has to be in the ten gallon aquarium by himself.I'm thinking if it is on his back, I can bathe him with an anti-fungal shampoo right? I just don't want to overdo it and dry his skin out and him get sores.

Help

Ugh ringworm. I have fought that battle a couple of times. Ok, this is what we did. We took the infected pig to the vet to confirm the diagnosis. He gave us an oral antifungal medicine, that we also had to give to our other pigs. Then the fun begins: disinfect EVERYTHING that the pigs interact with. We scrubbed their cage, houses, bowls, water bottles, toys etc with hot water and bleach. Throw out any chew logs that they may have, because that is simply to hard to eradicate the spores in. Wash your hands everytime you come into contact with them, if possible change your clothes after. Ringworm is incredibly contagious to humans an animals alike. I contracted it myself. Basically quarantine the pigs from the rest of the house until it has cleared up. I know it's tedious as heck, but if you take the right precautions it will not come back. hth and good luck.

Ringworm.

I think the vet is the best. I had a new guineapig 10 years or so ago. Within a week of having him he went bald on his head. They bathed him and treated the ringworm although it did take a few visits. The problem was I had a spot on the chin which then proceeded to be infected with ringworm and took over about 2" on my chin in rings. I had pills from the GP as the cream didn't work. I still after all this time have to use the cream. It comes and go when I am stressed. It was so tickly and itchy.

I would use disposable gloves until it is gone.

Funny thing is Kennys ringworm did not show up under the light. But, it did test positive for ringworm. I'm almost wanting to separate them during treatment so it doesn't get re-transmitted back to Kenny.

I am sorry your little one has ringworm. An aquarium is not a suitable place for guinea pigs. Not enough air circulates through it and the humid environment can promote respriatry infections.

An aquarium is not a good guinea pig cage because of the restricted air circulation. Ringworm has an incubation period of about 10-14 days.

You need to be meticulous in your hygiene to prevent transmission (and that also includes your clothing!)

Kept them together and have been treating Seths ringworm. I see much improvement. His hair is growing back. How long do you treat? Until it is completely grown back?

Sorry love i'm not sure on how long......
I'd be very vigilant for awhile yet tho, just to be sure!

Give them both lots of little kisses and loves from us all XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx
and HUGS for you, OMG what a nightmare start to it all! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I know I posted this somewhere but can't find it. Kenny has an area behind each ear that is thin on hair. Almost bald it you will. I did treat it a few times and he squealed when I put the medication on. It made his skin red and irritated looking. i know he can tolerate the medicine. Is it possible these two areas are not ringworm? They are directly behind each ear.

if it is directly at the base of each ear it is normal for piggies to have little or no hair in a patch here

On the gorgeous guineas an guinea lynx websites there are notes at pictures of it, so check up on there to see if that is what you are seeing

The skin getting red and angry though, no idea why that would be if he's tolerated it elsewheee
If you check on your other piggies it will likely be the same

Exactly as above, piggies do have a patch behind their ears where there is no hair. I would suggest this was not ringworm. Don't be alarmed if you see bald patches on the inside of the front legs too...these are completely normal and are caused by the pig washing itself :)

Seth has very thick course hair.:(|) I can't separate it good enough to see.:{ Kenny is smooth and soft like a rabbit.x>> Very fine hair that is easily parted.x) I haven't treated his ringworm that was on his face for about a week. I can't even find it. He doesn't look the same without it. I'm glad you mentioned bald patches in other places because if I had seen one, I would have stressed.-c
