Do things come in threes? I think so! Just wondering ...was very alarmed that our 2 year old Cinnamon lost temporary use of back legs last night after daughter put him back in c&c. I didn’t see but was a bit awkward, not a big drop, just cams. I HAVE TOLD her to but back into cage bum first! He dragged back legs for a minute and was then fine and is fine today. I think I should get him checked out by the VET? Anyone got any thoughts on this? It was VERY alarming. One thing after another ..😟

Hi!

I am very sorry for your upsets!

If your piggy is OK today, I would just keep an eye out. See a vet asap if there are problems.

Could you get your daughter to please carry guinea pigs in a conveyance, ideally a tunnel or a cardboard box you cut finger holes in? MUCH safer. Most accidents happen when carrying or putting wiggly piggies eager to be home back. :(

Thank you Wiebke for your kind words. I have suggested this to my daughter - she is nearly 16 and after recent events I had emphasised how important it is to take good care. I have / will suggest conveyance in future. At the moment she is barred I’m afraid. I cannot take anymore upsets. Can I ask - if there was a drop, only cms, this can be a cause of temporary paralysis?

I am sure that it has been a massive shock for your daughter, too, and that she will be more careful in the future. It is one of these life lessons you cannot really brace for until they happen to you. ;)

It depends on how awkward the landing was and whether a nerve was shortly pinched for instance.

These things unfortunately always happen in clusters, like London buses. The good news that there is a long problem-free stretch in the intervals.

Thanks Wiebke. You’re right, it was a massive shock for her too. But it’s not the first time recently. I hope for a steep learning curve now. There’s another tale involving Roborovski hamsters but I won’t go there! I’m keeping a close eye on Cinnamon. He seems fine. Looking forward to that long problem fee stretch. 😀
