My poor girl hasn't been right for the last few days and her weight has dropped off :(. I had her out this afternoon and she had some funny poos (small and wet, but crumbly :{) so I have booked her in to see the vet this evening as she just isn't right. I feel really bad that I hadn't picked up on anything sooner, but I've been so preoccupied with the baby and everything else lately that the poor pigs have been a bit neglected. I feel really bad about it :(. Hopefully the vets can sort her out and get her back to normal.

Hope all goes well at the vets. Healing vibes to Freya x

The vet wasn't sure what was wrong with her. He said her chest was a bit crackly so it may be a URI, and he gave her some baytril and ketofen injections. I am to make an appointment to go back tomorrow morning to see how she's doing and if she hasn't perked up, consider euthanasia! I thought that step was a bit drastic so I'm going to see if I can get an appointment with Simon at The Cat and Rabbit clinic, but I don't think I'll be able to get there tomorrow. We'll have to see what they say and see if we can come up with a solution. She has definitely perked up this evening and is tucking into her veg which is a good sign. Hopefully we'll get some answers tomorrow and get her some treatment.

How did he come up with that already? Is she really that unwell? That seems a bit of a rush doesnt it?

That's what I thought. I wouldn't have thought she has anything seriously life threatening, she's just under the weather. But because she looked depressed and upset he thought it would be kinder and I suppose some people aren't keen on spending a lot of money on vet treatments for small furries. It's a bit hurtful when they suggest it though as that would be my very last option and I'm willing to give her the treatment she needs to get better not just get rid of her for convenience :(.

That is very hurtfull. I am shocked he would suggest that as to end a life without good reason is terrible. Stick to what you think it right as you know her better.

Sounds a bit similar to my Ellie, would give you a link to follow but using my phone.I am

& it's got a habit of moving or losing things I'm writing... Could just be my chubby fingers!

Have a look at "Ellies not well" in the health & illness section. I was given some useful advice.

In a nutshell keep her warm,
use good quality hay,
use favourite foods to tempt her to eat again, fresh grass and dandelions were a Godsend!
Use a probiotic to boost the gut flora, if using antibiotics such as baytril.
And mush up some pellet food or use recovery food such as oxbow critical care to keep the gut working.
Keep her hydrated & use diuretics such as celery or dandelion to help clear the fluid crackle on her chest until you can get to a vet for prescribed diuretics.

I am about 2wks down the road and thought I was going to lose Ellie :(
But she has rallied round & now putting on weight slowly. Back to full appetite from none.

Definitely try a second opinion. Unless she deteriorates I wouldn't give up on her just yet.
Healing vibes to Freya.xx x>>xoxo
