Not sure if this is in the right category I really was unsure of where to put this so please forgive me. I have noticed over the past few days I have seen a few ants around and inside my pig's cage. Not an obscene amount but I've found 4 or so in the passed 3 days or so. Spencer's cage is on the floor, so I'm thinking maybe they are smelling his veggies at night and coming in for that? However, I find them most often in his litter box where I keep his hay and pellets... Has anyone else ever had this problem? Moving his cage up higher is not an option at the moment. Anyone have any advice?

Is the cage indoors? I wouldn't really consider the ants an issue outside but it's likely that if a few are in the cage then more from the colony will go in to forage. Cleaning around the cage may help as ants follow pheromone trails to and from their nests.

Yes the cage is indoors on the floor :/ I'm in the process of cleaning right now. I have also read that leaving a small trail of petroleum jelly around the outside of the cage will prevent ants from getting in as well so I'm going to try that

ooh - let us know if it works

depends on the kind of ant. the little tiny ones i wouldnt worry about, but big ones with a nasty bite id worry about. like green ants.

They are just the tiny ants I know they wont harm him, but I still don't want him to have to share his cage with them :/ I just got home from being out with a friend and no new ants have appeared. I also picked up some special stuff to put around my doorway (which is where the ants are getting in from) So hopefully no new ants appear!
