Anxious about catching the guinea pigs

I would be very grateful for any ideas or suggestions for catching guinea pigs (while they are in their hutch- so reaching in from the front) who seem determined to dash past me when i am reaching in rather than running away from me. It makes me really nervous as they are so quick and look for tiny gaps. Thank you 😊
 
Hello and welcome to the forum. I use one of these pigloos to catch them in to transfer them to their run or get them out for a cuddle. I also weight them in it and take off the weight of the pigloo. Only put one piggy in at a time as it’s not big enough for two. Hope that helps. I have two boars called Percy and Pepper. What piggies do you have? Post some pictures if you’d like to share.

Could ypou please tell us how your hutch is situated and protected in the winter?

I have two lovely young boars - Horace and Hector. They are not my first guinea pigs, however they are the first that have attempted to rush past me when I have opened the hutch. This has not only been when I have wanted to pick them up, but I've also had a near miss when I have been reaching in with my hand to put hay/food in. The hutch is in a large shed and also has a thermal cover.

The pigloo/carrier is a good idea- thank you.

Piggies are very quick when they want to be. 🤣
 
Welcome to the forum.
I use a snuggle pouch to herd a piggy into and lift them out.
We still play ‘Catch me if you can’ though.
We would love to see pictures of your boys
