Hello everyone!😊
My 2 year old guinea pig, Brownie, had stopped eating especially his favorite Timothy grass pieces and vegetables. He would be interested but could not grasp on the food and would just drop it and fiddle with it. We first believed the vet trimmed his teeth too low…I took him to the vet on Friday 10/10/25 morning and they were going to trim down his front bottom teeth. (The vet said the back teeth were fine. We always provided Brownie with Timothy sticks to bite down on to keep his teeth at a proper length. So we were confused to why his bottom front teeth were long but the before and after pics of his teeth, he did need them to get trimmed down) When we took him home in the afternoon the same day, he still was not eating. When we researched most guinea pigs are back to themselves and eating after a teeth trim normally. We have been syringe feeding him the critical care and water. I even bought an immersion blender to purée his favorite vegetables 🥕 and green bell pepper but he will not eat it. (His personality is very boujee😆and maybe he just likes eating his veggies like normal) but he just can’t at the moment.😔 What we are even more concerned on is he has very little poops and pee spots and no poops at all sometimes. We see him scrunch his butt to try to poop but all we notice is a very stinky smell that we never smelled before when he would use to poop. I also seen a kinda linking poop come out and it was stuck for a second hanging from his butt and smelled bad. We did call the vet back and told them he’s still not eating his favorite veggies, Timothy grass, or drinking from his water bottle nozzle and not pooping. They said to continue force feeding and we already know of course if he wasn’t eating properly he would not be pooping due to not having much food in his belly but since we are syringe feeding there’s still no poops. It is now Wednesday 10/15/25. I also plan on getting another exotic vet because they seem uncaring because wouldn’t they provide something so that he will not go into GI stasis I’m going to call them first thing in the morning about Brownie continuing to not poop and pee…but if anyone ever went through this after your guinea pig stopped eating all of a sudden, drinking water and had a teeth trim (and they still were not eating) please help😔

Also, Brownie will run out his hidey and wheek as he use to when I turn the light on in his room but he’s just not able to eat on his own, poop or pee…

Thank you in advance❤️

I’m so sorry to hear this.

Make sure you are weighing him every morning. The weight checks are the only way to know where you are getting enough critical care into him each day. He needs you to give him at least 60ml of critical care per day. The less he takes at each sitting, the more sittings you need to do in a day.
If he loses weight at each morning check then he isn’t eating enough. The critical care is replacing his hay intake until he starts to be able to eat hay for himself.
You are right - he isn’t pooping or his poops are small because be is not getting enough food.

Sometimes the front teeth (incisors) can have issues in their own right and need to be trimmed. However the incisors are self sharpening and are kept in check and to the correct length by the action of the molars. If a piggy doesn’t eat properly then the molars overgrow which in turn can cause the incisors to grow too long meaning in this event the original issue was never the incisors, it was the molars.
If the incisors are trimmed too short or if the actual issue is still the molars then he will not eat until those issues are dealt with (or until the Incisors grow back in)

He is on painkillers?

Definitely call another vet for a second opinion and he can be given medications he may need.

In the meantime, I’ve added our care guides to help you further

I hope he is ok

Oh gosh I’m so sorry to read about Brownie
Piggies&buns has given you the best advice
I would urgently seek the advice of an exotics vet.
Good luck and sending sending healing hugs to Brownie ❤️

Thank you so much and no, the vet office did not send us home with any pain killers We are feeding him 60 ml of the critical care with a syringe but may need to do more

Make sure you do weigh him every morning as that is your only guide as to whether he is being fed enough. Some piggies can need up to 100ml per day to stabilise their weight
Poop output is 1-2 days behind food intake so it’s outdated information and cannot be relied upon.

I hope he is ok
