hi, am looking for advice on my two poorly piggies......

Rocky was the first one to get ill with developing two scabby areas one above his eye and the other on his back, both have become bald and hard and scabby. now his pure black ears seem to be going grey, looks like a whiteish layer of stuff is starting to cover his ears. then a week later scruffy developed one big scabby area too on his back. both have had their first injection for mites and she has tested them for ringworm, which i dont know anything about and she said its a type of fungal infection? but i wont get the results for two weeks yet. i am starting to suspect this instead of mites due to rockys ears now starting to have white/grey stuff developing over his ears.

can anyone shed any light on what this may be? both are only 12 weeks old and really feeling for them. rocky has had this nearly 2 weeks and scruffy 1 week.

thank you so much for that info, the pictures of piggies with this do look very much like my piggies :( they are back to the vet on friday for their 2nd injection of mites do you think there is anything i can do in the meantime? any creams etc?

unfortunately yes i did. i was unaware of how bad they were til i purchased them and found this forum. but i dont regret it, they are my baby boys. just want to get them better :(

Canerstan 1% -used for thrush in humans. applied the the affected areas twice a day until hair is regrowing, also ask the vet for malaseb shampoo bath 3 times the first week, two the week after and one the week after x

I got my two lush boys last year from p@h and second day Kevin had this patch that looked awful took him to vets was ringworm we used canasten cream for a week he recovered really well you wouldn't know he had it! I was more angry p@h had said do you want another instead!?!? :{

Hope this helps x

My vet prescribed my Ruby griseofulvin, dosage depended on weight, she wasn't quite full grown and got 1/2 cc once a day thru am oral syringe, she was all better in a week and a half.

we rang pets at home and they are goin to pay the vet bills. they said that because they dont have a vet they cant tell you if any of the animals they let go have conditions that they cant visibly see, although if when they give them the once over and notice something they wont let them be re-homed til they are fit and well again. this is true as i wanted another guinea pig but as he had a scab on his ear they wouldnt let me take him at the time so i picked my lovely scruffy instead to come home with rocky. they said if something develops within 30 days of buying them then they will pay vets bills.

just hope we can get piggies sorted asap. just waiting on results of ringworm culture test and they are having their 2nd mite injections friday.
