I really wish my first post back was something more positive.

I've come home from an evening out to find one of my old girls in the same spot I saw her in when I checked on them before leaving. She's covered in wee down her side and all over her back legs and was very wobbly with walking - at first I thought she looked partially paralysed. I plonked some veg a little in front of her she was reluctant to move. I did some basic reflex tests and she pulls away when I gently pinch her foot or set it down with her toes bent she rights it with one leg but the other she there's only slight movement. I didn't want to manipulate it too much incase there was a break. About 5 minutes after metacam she was walking better but still not baring any weight on one side.

She's still very much interested in food and I've seen her reaching for her caecos and has been washing herself. So I'm happy to leave her for the night. First stop is the vets tomorrow.

If you have any spare healing vibes please send them my girlies way

Please keep her confined and quiet. Change the bedding at least twice daily and sponge any soiling off that she is unable to clean off herself.

Thankyou Wiebke. She's been moved to a smaller pen with Truffle - she was more stressed without him. I've moved everything within her reach so she doesn't have to manoeuvre about and seems quite bright.

I've also given her a quick wipe over and cleaned her back legs but she's still quite stressed so it wasn't the best of jobs.

*sighs* well we are back from the vets. She had a conscious X-ray, luckily she's such a nervous girl she just 'freezes', so the Vet opted for this rather than knock her out. The X-ray showed a small hairline fracture, but nothing too serious which would require splinting or operating. Vet was a little concerned about her ability to motor about since she's lost quite a bit of bum muscle (which accounts for the wobbling and paralysis type movement as she's trying to compensate for the injured leg) but with pain meds she's more mobile. I'm due back in a week to see how she's coping. So it's just confinement, pain relief and washes when needed for now.

At the minute she's chowing down on some cucumber and some herbs and squealing at Truffle whenever he tries to steal it. He's also been very gentle with her, he usually bouncing around barging past her, but since yesterday he's been very quiet, snuggling and grooming her (when she lets him :)):)))

Thankyou for your vibes xx

Its amazing isn't it how Truffle has changed in attitude towards his wifelet? He is a very caring piggie!

It is amazing how they can know that something is wrong. He's normally so rambunctious it's quite odd to see him so chilled out :)

Sending healing vibes, bless. good job on getting the x-ray done and at least you've got a diagnosis and you know what you are working with. That's often had the battle, finding out what the problem is and it's only then you can decide a course of action.

Poor thing! I hope she has a speedy recovery for you. At least you got a definitive x-ray so you know what's going on. Sending get well wishes! It's nice when they know that their companion is ill... one of our prior pigs, Linney, was the bossiest pig in the world, but she was kinder to her cagemates when they were unwell, it's like she knew somehow!

Thankyou xx

I feel like the worst owner right now. I came back from work to find Crunchie has one if the nastiest eye pokes I've experienced :(:( so he has had a gentle wipe clean, dosed with metacam and given time away from the herd with just two of his old ladies, as younger ones kept harassing him. Off to the vets again in the morning :( why do these things always happen late at night

Sending lots of healing vibes to your little ones x

You can't guard against injuries like this, they are no reflection on you. Let us know how you get on with the eye poke tomorrow x
