Can these be given to any pig? I inherited half a pack from a friend who recently lost her bunny and thought they might benefit George (already diagnosed with arthritis) and possibly Louise whose run has recently begun to look a bit stiff. She'll visit the vet with him next month when he has his check up. She lost a little weight over the last month but it's creeping back up again. I was worried at first but then I realised there might be another contributing factor...
Before floofy exhaustion.webp After two good girls.webp

Anyway it turns out pellet-monster Louise is mad for the OJS tablets. George likes half a one, and top sow Flora isn't bothered at all but if you don't give her a bit she steals Louise's just because she can. I watched as she heard Louise noisily crunching one in the hay cube and ran over to investigate. Louise heard her coming and - I kid you not - tucked her half eaten tablet under her floofy body and sat on it, then quickly began to eat hay so that when Flora arrived, eyeballing her and sniffing carefully at her mouth all she could see was this big strand of hay sticking out. Louise dutifully froze until Flora started eating hay then she carried on with her strand. When Flora wandered off to the other cage she waited a minute then dug out her OJS and carried on quietly crunching. Clever girl!

So the best tactic is going to be giving Flora a bit as well but as she doesn't 'need' them I'm torn. Are they OK to give to completely healthy piggies or is this wrong?

Well done Louise you sneaky pig for fooling Flora.

Flora has now decided she doesn't want these under any circumstances so the other 2 can eat in peace and she gets an extra bit of leaf or something.

Vet visit today for George's check up and she checked over this brand for things they shouldn't have (she had not seen it before) and said it was OK. Asked for feedback as to how pigs get on... so far fine! I'm going to order some more if I can find out where these came from in the first place ☺️
