Has anyone found any particular greens that actually make your guinea pigs get diarrhea or loose stools? I am trying to figure out why one of my girls gets a little bit of a dirty bum. Her daytime droppings are totally normal but I never see the night droppings or caecal pellets, so they may be soft. I am wondering if one of the foods isn't agreeing with her. They get 1 cup of mixed greens in the morning and 1 cup at night for two pigs, unlimited hay, water and I keep their pellet dish full. They don't eat a lot of pellets. I have even gone to mostly organic greens to reduce pesticides and chemicals. Anyone else have a slight dirty bum problem? Maybe this is normal. Please any info would be appreciated.

What kind of greens are you feeding as to much cabbage and wet foods can cause stomach upsets.

I brought a bagged salad once and it gave Eliza really soft horrible poo so I haven't fed that kind again

They are not fond of cabbage or any other cruciferous veggies. They won't eat carrots or peppers. The mix varies throughout the week. I choose from romaine lettuce, raddichio, parsley, a little kale (wonder about this one?) sometimes a little chard, cilantro, wheat grass, escarole, carrot tops, chicory greens, spinach on occasion. Sometimes I will buy the organic field greens but they don't like the dark lettuce. All summer and fall they ate mostly grass, a few dandelions, some clover and whatever we grew in the veggie garden. This is my first winter with them so I am learning. They get a little of everything but not a lot of one thing.

What would you class as a wet food? My girls do like mostly leafy greens, are they wet foods? This girl does drink more water which might make things softer, although everything I see looks normal.

One of mine used to get slightly softer poops from sweetcorn. Chubster pig does get sloppy poops from cucumber so I don't buy it, which is a shame as the youngsters like it as a treat :)

You don't see the caecal pellets as they eat them straight away (mine eat them directly from their bum!) - fresh is best!

When my girls were little my husband and I would see them often reach for a snack. This happened in the evening when we were watching TV. We called it their "soft serve". I don't see this as often now they are almost grown. From what I have heard they eat these mostly at night. Is this true?
