Hi there

I have 2 boys that are 10 weeks old now - they are doing well and although at first the slightly bigger one was the more adventurous (we picked him cause he was standing on top of a hay cube in the pet shop) They both now love running along the log tunnels and hay cube that we have set up in the top of our hutch in an adventure playground type layout. So i am now thinking are they ready for the lower level of our hutch. Especially as they haven't gained any obvious injuries from all their adventurous play even when they are running on the large log tunnel in the outdoor run. I have kept it closed up to now but was thinking about putting them in it whilst i clean them out - yesterday they were in their outdoor run but it looks like rain.

So any tips? I am going to do a bit of DIY with a cereal packet to give it higher sides for the ramp but it is a good solid ramp with a layer of stuff for grip so i think once they get used to it they will be fine. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance :))

Hi

So pleased you little fellas are coming along nicely.

I would open the bottom up and place some food down the ramp and see what they do, or put them in the bottom with the top open (may be safer!). May take a few days.

I ended up having a tunnel made for my girls and they flatly refused to use the ramp at all. Once the tunnel was in they were up and down within minutes! You can see the story on the Cosy Cavies website, this is where the idea came from for the tunnel

Let us know how you get :))

Hello,

My little piggies were a little reluctant to use their ramp at first so I also placed a little bit of food at the top and bottom (a trail really) and this certainly got their attention! I did also give them a very gentle helping hand to get up the first few times and now they spend all day whizzing up and down! It's the getting down that they find a little bit scary to begin with.

Good luck! x

Success - i used some cardboard to make the sides higher and found a largish box to made a den out of that would break a fall if one of them fell off the ramp - but i think both weren't needed as both piggies have been up and down all day loving it! The cardboard sides have more or less fell off (so much for my engineering capability!) so i think an overall success - shall leave the den as they love it! :(|)
Will post some piccies if i get chance to take some (my kids are outside killing each other - on no they tell me they are playing football!) so shall wait till alls quiet rolleyes
