Hi,

For two years we have had 2 lovely little guinea pigs. Last Sunday I came out to find the door on the top floor of our hutch open and one of our guinea pigs had disappeared. There was also a couple of tufts of her hair on the grass. We searched but she was nowhere to be seen and I couldn't see any way she could have got out of the garden.

Obviously paranoid about what happened we have made sure the doors were closed but now less than a week later we go out and the same door is open and our 2nd piggie is gone. No signs of blood or fur or anything.

I have never seen them jump from the top floor of the hutch, or jump on anything, they are fat little things that like their feet firmly on the floor.

What do you think had happened to my poor girls? The mystery is driving me mad

I am very sorry that you have lost both of your piggies under such sad circumstances.
It sounds very much like they were taken by a fox.
Once a fox knows a source of food they will often return to hunt for more.
They are very clever and fast, and can usually work out simple latches and closures.

Again I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the info. I had no idea that a fox could open the catch, i feel terrible that I let him get both but at least it solves the mystery
