I've had five guineas. Three out of five will wine when I pat them to make them yawn and stretch. Even though they enjoy the pat, its as if they don't enjoy the fact that I'm in control of their feelings. Haha. Is it perhaps the dominate guineas that do this? I wish they'd just let themselves enjoy their stretch and yawn without getting annoyed that it's happening. My current guinea does it, but she doesn't seem to be dominate. Also, has anyone noticed that it's the more Dominant pigs who like the under the chin scratches? My theory there is because it raise their chin which makes them feel like the boss. :-P

Please so not pat your piggies that way as they clearly do not like it!

A dominant guinea pig will enforce its dominance by forcing the chin of an underpiggy up. What you are doing is enforcing your own authority.

But she purs, yawns and stretches when I do it. Maybe it's a similar sounds people sometimes make when they stretch. I would never do that. I always listen to them and make an effort to respect them. For example, if they don't want to be picked up, I never force them. And if they squirm on my lap I always get up and put them back :-/ and I wait for them to decide to go to their spot to be put back in their hutch at night, even if it means sitting there on the floor for over an hour waiting

P.S I re-read that, I didn't word it correctly. I would never do anything to upset them. :( My guinea pig gets her bit of carrot in the morning, puts it down in front of her and waits for that pat before she starts eating. Once she's done her yawn and stretch, she starts eating. If she wants to be alone, then she goes under her platform. Sometimes, when I pat her head, she shakes my hand away, and I stop the second she does

* I haven't attempted to pat her under the chin in years. I know she doesn't like it. I was just curious about the different personalities
