so one of my boys started squeaking when having a poop a month or two ago, then it was when urinating as well and started to be a bit more of a squeal and seemed like he was in pain so i got him an x ray and scan by my vet who gave them the all clear for stones or any masses,he also emailed them to simon maddock a respected cavy savy vet who also gave them the all clear,so we started a baytril course alongside metacam ,the baytril didnt seem to do much so we switched to a septrin course which seemed to work a certain amount but he still had a squeak here and there.Anyway he still squeaks a little when having a poo,not all the time but a little. He has always been his normal self, eating and playing etc and not acted ill and i wondered if A,he is just a moany pig. B,he had an infection and its coming back. C,its his diet which may i add is not high in calcium and i have worked hard on getting right or D,he is stressed by the other boy mounting him etc but to be honest they are not to bad as they seem to be getting over the hormonal stage as they are now about 1 year old.
i will also add that the boy with the squeak does seem to chew his vet bed a bit and i wondered if it could be playing with his gut ?

thanks.

Oh dear....completely sympathise with your predicament.

Please Pm me your phone number for a chat about his conidtion as I do not have the stamina to post all the info on here.

I was with Simon yesterday talking about a specific condition I have experienced recently with one of my boars and i think that this particular issue might help explain your boar's predicament and how you can resolve it.

Please also let me know in the PM if he is neutered (I suspect he isn;t?)

UTIs can be extremely tricky to get rid of (and sometimes even impossible - see interstitial cystitis); some forms don't seem to react well or much to antibiotics. Simon Maddock is a very good vet indeed, and if your own vet is in contact with him, then you will get the best care there is.

Just a few questions:
- how long has your boy been on baytril and on septrin?
- has it just been those two courses?

Things you can try and talk over with your vet:
- cystease; this is a bladder lining food supplement for cats and not a medication. I have two chronic cystitis piggies on it - the longer one for 20 months now. She's been symptom free since then (after half a year of more-or-less cystitis problems).
- I also use metacam (painkiller/anti-inflammatory) for acute pain until other meds kick in.

Here is more information for you about UTIs: http://www.guinealynx.info/uti.html

hi and thanks, baytril was about a week then the septrin for 9 days straight away after and yes only these two courses,i did use a cystitis powder mix for humans for a few days as instructed from a savy cavy person, should i get a urine sample sent off ?

I would have a chat with Pebbles (she is so much more medically expereinced than me) and if necessary have the urine analysed, yes.
