Hi everyone - my guinea pig had an abscess about a month ago it was drained and it’s been flushed several times every day since. There’s no more pus only a small amount of blood which comes when flushing. It doesn’t seem to be healing though or getting any smaller. It’s still about the size of a £2 coin. She is well in herself eating, pooing etc normally and is on painkillers for the wound.I’m just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to help an abscess wound heal? Or how long it takes? Thank you in advice for all help it’s much appreciated.

Is she still on an antibiotic? Was the abscess marsupialised (stitched open)? They usually start to close down quite quickly, often too quickly. Could you send a picture of the wound?

She’s not on antibiotics and it wasn’t marsupialised because it burst itself (wasn’t planned it happened when no one was around). I could try to get a photo of the wound later. Thanks for your help.
