My guinea pig is not eating any of his pellets, he is eating his veg and hay ok, and not lost any weight. But not sure what to feed him, as he wont eat the normal burgess or the pets at home ones.

the people before got him from pets at home so was on thier food but for some reason the last owner decided to put muesli in his food, was was on mix when came to me and was just eating the muesli out of it.

What else can i try. Is there any other good pellets out there that are not expensive. i was going to try the other burgess but is now £6 a bag.

Does anyone else have a guinea pig that refuses to eat Pellets, do you feed them muesli and are there any good ones

Have you tried Harringtons? It used to be Wagg.

If he won't touch pellets I personally would just feed him a tiny bit of museli mix, I know some people are very dead set against it but our first piggies were bought up on Gerty Guinea Pig and while I wouldn't feed it our girls now as first choice - if they didn't eat pellets I would, as both Pitch and Putt lived to an old age and had no problems from it. Museli isn't as good as pellets but I am not as against it as others, dry food should only form a very tiny part of their diet as you know.

Piggies can be so picky with pellets/ nuggets. I was quite lucky that my girls hit if first time round with the Mint Burgess. I also tried the blackcurrant one but they wouldn't touch it. It can be a bit wasteful but trying different brands might work. Is he getting regular veggies and plenty of hay? I know some people who don't feed any dry food but not sure how wise that really is, to be honest.

Not sure if you seen my pm? I was just wondering what happen to your piggie boy Elmo? Did you find him a loving home?

Our piggies wouldn't go near the blackcurrant ones too!

Maybe its the weather? It might be to hot to eat them my boys arent eating very much hay&nuggets but eating lots of veg especially a nice big bitt of juicy cucumber :) i probaly wouldn't worry too much unless he stops eating all together

If he's eating plenty of veg and hay and not losing weight i wouldn't worry, pellets should be thought of more as a treat really and piggies can do very well with out them. :)

Guinea pigs on the continent live happy and healthy long lives without pellet food. As long as he gets plenty of hay and a good, balanced veg diet which includes some high vitamin C veg or herb every day, he will be fine.
