I have a piggy who needs special care due to genetic macilusson as ive already posted about on here before just wanted to kbow if there is anyone out there who also has a needy pig and why :)?

My Hamish is a lethal piggy (although mildly affected) so he is partially sighted, partially deaf and has intermittent dental issues. He's a beautiful boy and loves his brother Angus very much. He manages life very well as long as his teeth are ok and I don't move things in the cage or on the floor around too much. He's very loving and loves his snuggles and giving my OHs face a good wash. I wouldn't be without him!

We have Megan, who is blind and has some eating, breathing and digestion problems as well as being very slow mentally :))

She was very neglected and rescued by the RSPCA and was in an horrific state when they got her and would barely move in her cage. Two years on she will hoarsely wheek and enjoys the comforts that all piggies do and has really blossomed.
When we first had her she had to have pellet mash and would eat very slowly, but her teeth have improved to the point that she can now eating dry pellets and destroys veggies with vigour :)

My piggy has to live of pellet mash **** all his life.

Jodie, I'm going to move this thread to 'general pig chat' just to free Health & Illness section up, you can still read and post on it in there.

We have Squeek, or wobbles as i call her, shes brain damaged and slightly blind, i would'nt say she needs special treatment as she gets along just fine, apart from the walking in circles and nodding her head, she does get annoyed fairly fast tho if anyone cuddles her apart from me, hubby got a munched finger the other day :)) shes special to me as we nearly lost her as a baby, shes now 3 in april, vets said to spoil her as a baby as she probably would'nt last long

You have done such wonders with Megan. Hello beautiful princess. x

Loving this thread, thank you Jodie, I do have a soft spot for special piggies...... I think it comes of working with people with disabilities too!

I have a group of three formidable cataract sows that live with a fully sighted gentle husboar. They are very closely bonded. We had to adapt the ramp in their cage to a shallow angle with little rails on the side, but they can still roam the living room floor; even Taffy, who is sadly virtually blind by now and has to completely rely on her other senses.

Tegyd, Mali and Taffy are guarding their timid man hiding at the back!

Tegyd and Mali have both come here because they were unrehomeable with their eye problem. Taffy is celebrating her 4th gotcha day this month.

Mrs Fuzzy is our biggest special needs pig, very serious heart condition, cataracts in both eyes (though she can still see very well at the moment) and a tiny mouth which would make any future dentals very difficult.

Our other are:

Millie, Jess, Maddie, Mabel, Star and Ellie: All have heart issues and are on meds for life (as is Fuzzy), all are doing well on them though
Barney, Amy, Jess: All slightly away with the fairies from the effects of systemic mycosis, especially Barney and Jess
Phoebe: recurring skin issues and gut issues plus interstitial cystitis
Maddie: Interstitial cystitis

Previous special needs pigs were Nigel and Buzz.

Its so sweet to see so many people to rake the time to look after these piggys.. people who have never bonded with a guineapig really dont understand there little personalities. I would do anythin I could to help piggys have a happy life. Ive had some horrible remarks made by work mates saying 'just get another one' or 'put him to sleep' ... to me thats cruel, he is not ill he has a deformity and relies on me to hopefully live a long and happy life

I never had special guinea pigs but my B/f and I have many special need haves.. Blind from birth. We once had a chances to get a 3 legged hamster but someone esle got there first.. we were a bit up set..

I have Woozy, with a genetic kidney dysfunction, who needs a very low calcium diet all her life (up to 0.4 calcium %). It works so well, I will keep all my future pigs and current companion on it too.

And her friend Plucky has a heart condition and is on heart meds.

Aww what beautiful piggys. So nice knowing they have a loveing home.
I hate to wonder what would happen to all these special pigs if someone else might have got to them before us :(

Look at all those gorgeous piggies! It makes me so happy to see so many people giving them the help they need to have a happy life, however long it may be. One of my boys is a dental pig requiring treatment once a month. He started treatments at 2 months of age and recently he celebrated his 2nd birthday!
