hi are there any forum members or there children suffer with travel sickness and what do you take for it my 11 year old son sufferes with it and he has over an hours coach trip coming up with his shool to duxford and he really wants to go was recomended by a mum at the school gates to give him phenergan as she uses it for her son have just google searched it and some of the side effects are awfull what do you use?

Perhaps you might move that to the "Everything else - chit chat" section?

I'm sorry, I can't help you! I dont' suffer from it, nor do I have children.

Ginger biscuits work at treat :)
Alternatively you can buy over the counter stuff for sickness too.

I find that those Joy Rides tablets work. Also, my daughter wears travel bands. Phenergan can have one of two effects - it either knocks them out, or makes them hyper! We took it with us for a flight to Oz but ended up giving her the joy rides tablets instead.

Hope this helps.

Kelly

My son (11 years) and I both suffer from travel sickness ..... its yuk, we both take Sturgeon, you can but it over the counter in the chemist, after years of suffering I find this one the best and it doesn't make you so drowsy as some of them :) The only thing is it has to be taken 2 hours before the journey.

I second the ginger suggestion. You can buy it in candy form. Here in Canada they are in health food stores - called ginger chews - and are recommended for travel. My 12 year old son likes them but they are very strong!

My younger sister was really bad with it and as previously mentioned ' Joy Rides' worked well for her. Might be a good idea to try these.

i suffer from travel sickness and my daughter does aswell i would be reluctant to give a child medication if it can be helped i use travel wrist bands it has a little button thing that sits on a nerve that helps i dunno how they work but they do you can buy them from a chemist also try ginger tablets ( there hard sweets) can get them out of any good sweetshops i hope this helps and good luck!

i use to suffer with travel sickness and i either took quickeez which i don't know if you can get there or even better was travelcalm from the chemist,i highly advise against using phenergan the side effects are horrible and it is needed in some situations but i have also known bad parents to dose there kids up because it makes them drowsy and fall asleep,i tend to think anything that makes them that tired isnt good for them, needless to say my daughter had a bad allergic reaction and she got prescribed phenergan, against my ideas on it i gave it to her and she had the opposite effect that 1% of kid get and that was ultra hypo and she stayed up till 3am ahhhhh.i hope i helped xxxxx

I suffer from travel-nausea, but I think it's an control thing because it started when I learned how to drive and I'm a control freak.

I control it by staring out the window and daydreaming. Travel-pills make me want to puke (really, they taste like flavoured chalk), most herbal remedies are a placebo (bad part about living with an anatomy student, he tells you the placebo's so now they don't work) and travel bands just made me uncomfortable at a time when I'm already feeling claustrophobic.

I travelled up and down Western Australia by bus for a month and I coped with travel sickness by sleeping through the entire journey and sucking on Travel Sweets (the boiled sweeties kept in that delicious icing powder!) or sipping on water whenever I started to feel nauseous. I seem to think that if something is going down then nothing will come up.

thanks for all your help my son allready uses the travel bands and usually sucks on tic tacs but still feels sick and sometimes is actually sick i will not be giving him phenergan i am not very keen on using drugs unless there is a real need for it i will have a look in holland and barett this weekend

I can't really recommend anything as I just take travel sickness pills. I use to take Joy rides for children when I was a child. I just want to say that I sympathies with your son. I have suffered with travel sickness since I was very young and still do now at the age of 27. The only time I don't suffer is when I drive x
