I know there's another thread about the price of these but I didn't want to go off-topic to much by asking what people's opinion on the food is. My guinea-pigs are fed a mix which really doesn't seem that good and I've often found its quite dusty and bitty at the bottom of the bag which is a bit of a waste. Also I've noticed Billy in particular picks bits out of the food which isn't good. My mum buys the food and I don't like to suggest different foods in case its more expensive/harder to get because it would be harder for her but it's cheaper for a large sack (which I need with my 5 - soon to be 6 guinea-pigs)

What are your opinions on this food? I had a look and couldn't find a thread on this but sorry if I've missed one.

Also Barry is getting quite chubby, is this a high-c alorie food because if it is I might have to get something else for him or just give him more exercise.

Is this better than the guinea-pig crunch? I thought it would be because its a pellet?

I tend to use WAGG here. It is the fourite amongst all the guienas so far compared to the crunch and other brands of pellets. So it gets a big thumbs up from the piggies here.

Generally speaking pellets are better than mix as it does prevent the selective feeding that you've mentioned. I've not used wagg optimum for piggies but my bunny Steve, has the rabbit equivalent and I've found it to be excellent - think most supermarkets stock it as well :)

Cost wise, pellets usually work out cheaper than mix as there's no waste.

My rabbits are on Waggs Optimum. I find it really good and it's cheaper than Burgess Excel because, I believe, you pay VAT on all Burgess foods. I do feed Burgess Excel Guinea Pig pellets ( can't remember if the piggie food is called excel) but it is very expensive. I didn't know Waggs did optimum piggie food so I'll try that instead. I much prefer complete pellets for the rabbits and piggies as none is wasted whereas there is always food spread everywhere with museli type foods.

ive just switched my lot on to this food and they love it, my rabbit also has the rabbit version, no complaints from me :)

I can't speak highly enough of this food. I put all my rescues on this when they come in and all of my pet pigs too and they wolf it down. All dried food is calorific as that is it's purpose, it should be fed in limited amounts in my opinion. Control of it ensures that they eat more hay and veg which is the vital part of their diet. I buy mine in bulk from here:

It's the cheapest place I've found and they do love it.

Hope that helps xx

It's the cheapest place...

Hi hun but just wanted to mention I found somewhere that sells the 10kg Bag for £9.99 so that works out even cheaper, especially if buying in bulk cos its free delivery over £40. Have a look at my thread "WAGG nuggets absolute bargain" the link is on there. X

They didn't sell this at the pet shop but I got a small bag of Burgess Excel Guinea-pig instead. I'm going to try mixing it into their old food tonight and gradually swap them over if they like it.

I sent an email asking what the calcium levels were and this is the reply I received:

Dear Donna

Thank you for your enquiry. The calcium content in our Optimum Guinea Pig food is approximately 0.6%. If you have any further queries about our products, please contact us again.

Kind regards
