HI

I've never had this with any of my other pigs, and Max dosent have it so i'm a little baffled.

Scruffy for months now bottoms has quite alot of thick creamy coloured gunk up there and is really smelly - it collects alot at the bottom of his bum and when you smell it sometimes, it has a slight (sorry this is a bit horrible) smell of sick to it. It is really thick.

Anyone's pigs got this? I'm just baffled as not one pig i remember has had it?

sounds like infection to me discharge but i am only guessing prop some thing completely different

If it looks like thick toothpaste, for want of a better description, it is pefectly normal.
It is just the secretions from the glands in that area. The secretions from the scent glands are somewhat smelly to humans but convey information to other pigs.
The males will often drag their back-end along the floor to mark their territory.

Jasper has this what Al describes. Just a boar thing! Is he a rumbly boy them?

thanks guys - yes it is like a toothpaste. When you wipe it its so thick and gloopy and really hard to get off.

no lou, its not that much, but does it occasionally, max does it more

Ive had other boars who are far more rumbly than him, so thats why I'd thought I'd ask. I'm not too concerned as hes had it for ages and hes still eating like a gannet and perfectly healthy! lol

I'll just have to keep cleaning his bum every night! mess pig!

Logan is very rumbly to Jasper so I wonder if he is spraying his manly juice all over Jasper making him sticky on his back end! rolleyes

lol, see now thats usually Max - although hes stopped doing that so much now!

I think that is the case, hes getting a little bit over excited! lol

following on from the above, last night Scruffy did a poo, and it was really weird.

I was holding him and it was coming out, but one end of it was clear ended (and thought it was a bubble). I got a tissue and had a look at it was like a clear skin which i eventually pulled away and then all this runny, and really smelly poo came out, and as i squeezed it, and kept coming out (the smell made me reach, and thinking about it makes me so sick!) its weird as the outside was hard, bar this clear skin which allowed this gunk to come out.

He did one more like it, and then he went to bed - we looked at his poos this morning and they seem to be normal.

sorry this is really making me feel bit yuk! my poor boy, does anyone know what this could be, or am i being over paranoid?!?

Often, pellets joined together by mucous, rather like sausages, indicates dehydration.
In this case, it seems more like "one of those things". Usual advice, wait and watch for a couple of days.

they werent joined - they were runny inside - sometimes they would get stuck in his bum and he's be searching for them but they were still there! poor little mite

we taken them off the veg for a day to see if there is an improvement. Hes fine though, eating lots and happy so its nothing too much to worry about, just quite weird and a gross!
