Hi All

Last October i got my two wee girls from adoption centre at PAH. Minnie was smaller, frightened, nervous and jumpy. Maxie was bigger and more confident. Every night they both come out for time in play pen and lap time. Over the last month or so, Minnie has become a little cheeky piggy. She used to be terrified, NOW! if she doesn't want to be there, she dives straight up to your face and nips your nose, ears, lips (its quite funny)or pulls at your clothes until she gets in her cage.. she is so cheeky and still very skittish..she does not like to be handled at all, maybe except when she is sleepy in the afternoon. what happened to my timid shy little minnie? maxi is more relaxed and still bigger, she doesn't bite, she licks...

is this just her personality? or i am annoying her? does anyone else have a piggy like her? sinbreeding

Could quite likely be that she's not a cuddly piggie, I've had plenty of thos in my time. Alvin hated being held and always pee'd on my lap but he was so unbelievably tame, he would demand a nose scratch and was always always looking at me, squeeking at me and interacting, we shared many nice times just me and him side by side at the cage bars. I just think its best to respect their wishes if there not cuddly pigs there are lots of other ways to bond

My smores is alot the same. He dosent care for petting, and after a few mins on the lap, he wants down or back home oin his house. He will nip lightly if mummy dosent listen to the I'm done body language. Bath time..oh my dont get me started. Choco likes pwtting and snuggling but go to put cream on him...he bites....lol.

Once they get to know their surroundings they do settle down........she's now settled and having fun :)
Very cute what you say.......... see if someone can get a video and then post it on here drool

I used to have a piggy who hated being handled and even after 4.5 years she still ran away from me. Sadly she's not with me anymore. But I used to just leave her alone, it wasn't fair to make her do something she didn't want to do purely for my own enjoyment.

To be honest, I don't handle my piggies that much - I like to watch them interracting with each other and being happy.

yeah, i agree, i always put her back in the cage when she tells me. She is a funny little character, her looks get her everywhere...she is like a naughtly child, "make no eye contact" as soon as you do, thats it! she will just stare and stare at you until you do.. it is very funny..she is not the boss piggy in the cage but she is out of the cage over me..thanks everyone

I'm glad to hear other owners have guineas who don't like being handled. My guineas are happy to be petted and Harry even likes a wee tickle under his chin but they don't like being handled. I was worrying about this until I started to think I wouldn't like being picked up. It's good that they are happy to be clapped when they are in their cage and when they are having their play time on the floor, it would be a lot worse if they didn't like to be touched at all. So I generally give them attention when they are in their cage or when they are playing and they seem quite content with that.

Not all piggies are cuddlers, and you need to respect that. I put mine always back as soon as they signal that they have had enough and want to be back with their friends. Personally, I'd rather see them being happy piggies than happy human pets and I have more fun that way, too!

I'm exaclty the same, I lie beside them and watch them and talk to them, they have no fear of me and are very happy relaxed and confident piggies. I have one very tame piggie, but he was alone for a while and we have a special bond. But the other three although not scared are not cuddlers at all and Aliza scream when you pick her up, get she's very happy to take veggies from my hand. I enjoy watching their heirachy and them sharing food and chasing each other, it smuhc mor eintersting than having them plonked on my lap :(|)

I have one like this lol, Tyler is a serious nightmare to catch when it's clean out time, once you've got him he's not too bad but he's very vocal and wont sit still so I dont handle him much, he's more than happy to have a chin rub in his cage and he's a terrible beggar, climbing the side of the cage for food, it's just that he'd rather be with his cage mate rolleyes
Flinn and winston like cuddles when THEY'RE in the mood but are incredibly tame, practically falling over the edge of the cage with their noseyness! And fuzzy is a total lap pig, he'd let you fuss him all day! rolleyes

My piggie (Pippa) is also similar. When I first bought her from very young she would not sit still on my lap. I put this down to her being young and she would grow out of it but to this day and she is now and 1 and 8 months she is still the same so have accepted this is just part of her personality. She seems to enjoy jumping on and off my lap and running up and down the sofa shaking her head and popcorning. It is really funny if you get up from the sofa and leave the room she runs up and peers over the arm of the sofa looking at you as much as to say "where are you going, don't leave me". I suppose not all guinea pigs can be the same, it would be pretty boring if there were.
