I posted a could of weeks ago I had 2 guinea pigs one died before Christmas so about 3 weeks ago I decided to get a friend for my current guinea pig. The friend was quiet slim and once she arrived here things got worse and worse she had an eye infection which turned into a uri and infected my other guinea pig who started with the eye thing. Had a week of baytril and probiotics for both and hand feeding recovery food to the New Guinea pig. We where doing so well symptoms gone antibiotics finished and the new piggy was more interested in food, then on Thursday night she had dreadful diarrhoea even though she had the probiotic and had finished the antibiotics. Unfortunately Friday she was completely off all food before when I syringe fed her she would eat wot I out in her mouth Friday she wouldn't and I was scared to put stuff in incase she choked or aspirated, then very sadly, 3 weeks after we got her, yesterday afternoon, she died on my lap! It's too sad I felt like I did everything. My poor other guinea pig was squeaking madly when she died this is twice in a short time we have been through the death of a guinea pig. Not my other guinea pig is starting with the symptoms of sore eyes again.

I still have some baytril left should I start giving her this again, it seems to work before have some pro c as well as I have ran out of biolapis. I also have fucithalmic eye drops left which I have out in her eye.

Cannot understand how this has happened I'm obviously doing something wrong with these guinea pigs, I've had 2 for over 3 years with no problems! I definitely can't bring myself to get another guinea pig for ginger biscuit it's too stressful. I also work 12 hour shifts so it's not been easy fitting in feeding and medication etc! This is such a shame I wanted to help by adopting a rescue pig but just made it worse!

I can't offer you any advice other than to take piggy in for a check up with a cavy-savvy vet. I'm sure another forum member will have more specific advice for you.
Please don't beat yourself up - you did a wonderful thing when you rescued your new pig and I am so so sorry for your loss.

This is absolutely not your fault. You did everything you could, and the little piggy would have passed knowing she was in a loving home. You did a wonderful thing by adopting from a rescue, and it would be a shame if this puts you off from doing so again in the future.

Your current piggy needs to be seen a vet as soon as possible - tomorrow, if you can. I would not give the antibiotics until you have seen the vet, as you may be dealing with something different this time.

I'm so sorry that your girl has passed away. You are very welcome to leave a tribute in our Rainbow Bridge section.
