I use natures own meadow hay for bedding hay and the boys love it! They even eat some of it over their staple oxbow! :x So i was looking on their website and found that they have guinea pig food, but i cant find the ingredient's. Its this food.
http://www.naturesownpets.co.uk/products.html

Anyone tried it?
When i emailed and asked if they did samples they replied and said this:
Hi Samantha

We don't have sample packs as such, however, if you were to order one outer of 4 X 2kg guineapig food I'll send another free along with it, as a thanks for giving it a go.

Best regards

So does this mean they will add one more 2kg pack or 4 more packs?

:)

Ooh, I'd think they will send you 5 bags.
I've just looked at their website and they seem ok - tempted to order some myself tbh for my gang to try rolleyes
Shame they don't do a sample ?/

I have done another search but cant seem to find any-other sites that sell it, i wanted to know the ingredient's as it looks like a hay based feed?

No i have not heard of that feed before. Thanks for adding it, i think i will email them and ask them if they do samples as i only have 2 pigs and dont want to buy a 15kg sack if they dont like it :)

I have emailed natures own and asked for a list of ingredient's.

If they don't, then look up the local stockists as many buy the big bags then sell them on in smaller bags. I get the 15kg sacks as I have 11 guineas and we go through it quick, but my local supplier normally splits the bags and sells small ones for £2 a bag.

I could always post you some actually if you don't mind paying postage!

I have emailed them and asked, just have to wait for a reply. When i tried to look at the stockist list it wouldnt work :{

It's very temperamental. I found it easier to use the map

I'm not sure where in South Wales you are, but this one covers Glamorgan?

As I say if they can't help, I can always post you some - just tipped a large 15kg bag into a rat-proof dustbin about an hour ago, lol

Thanks for adding that! There is a stockist just down the road from me! Could post a picture of the food? I you cant no probs :)

That just looks like a bog standard muesli mix to me. What am I missing? :{

It has no colours or any crap in it, and doesn't cost silly money like pet shop stuff does!

I didn't promise it wasn't just a standard muesli lol, just offering alternatives on the OP's food quest for more natural alternatives to some of the shop bought muselis.

Here is a photo of some food!

Thanks for adding the photo, kind of looks like the wagg guinea pig crunch, but i suppose as it dosent contain any artificial colourings, would be worth a try. (They are on wagg crunch now with some grainless nuggets mixed in.)

I have emailed the company of natures own pets and asked about the ingredient's, so will let you know the reply when it comes Pelicano. :)

Ive had a reply back about the ingredient's and this is what they sent me.

Hi

Certainly, the ingredients are:-

Dried grass, hay residuals, peas, maize, wheat, straw, barley, oats, molasses, arg soya, herbs, carrots, mins and fruit.

Protein 13.4%
Fibre 17.1%
Ash 6.2%
Oil 2.3%

Best regards

Not sure if these are good or bad, anyone know? Also there is no mention of vitamin C. :{

I'd be keen to know what herbs and also what minerals, it doesn't give the vit C content or the calcium content either which concerns me the same as you!

Thanks for finding out. :)

To me it looks like some grass/hay with some muesli added. They sell something similar in Pets at Home. Doesn't look that great to me...

Sorry were you commenting on my photos? As they are not the Natures Own food.

They are the Natural Pet Co. food. Which I feed to all my guineas. It is nothing like the pets at home stuff, for one it isn't full of colourings.

Hi, no, wasn't commenting on your photos but the food that Joey & Gizmo had found out about (ie from the ingredients). I also don't mean the regular PAH mix (which I don't think actually has colourings anyway), but that Woodland stuff that they sell.

Sorry to be vague, but I couldn't remember the name of it. Have found a link though:

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/woodlands-guinea-pig-food-and-forage-750gm-and-2kg-15713

That stuff sounds like the food that Joey & Gizmo was finding out about - ie it sounds like some hay, herbs plus muesli pieces. It would be easy enough to make up your own mix like that.

I could, of course, be totally wrong! :))

Ah I see! This thread is getting confusing haha!

That woodland stuff seems just like a marketing scam to me, the price of it is ridiculous and I agree it looks like hay with bits of muesli chucked in, and also agree yep you could make your own very easily! Just let the guineas tip the food bowl over haha!

P@H are now doing a supreme muesli, I think that's what they are calling it, it has a fancy swirly font on the packet...looks just like Gerty to me!

I thought their muesli did have colourings...irrelevent to me though as I don't feed it ;) I might have a look at a packet though. I had some pigs stay recently that didn't eat ANY of their dry food while here, it was the P@H stuff, in the end I fed them some of mine (slowly introduced) as was worried they would lose weight!

Yeah, sorry for being confusing! :red :))

I couldn't swear to the PAH colourings thing, but the last time I saw it (a while ago now though) I couldn't see any brightly coloured pieces and I don't think colourings were mentioned on the ingredients. Not that I'd necessarily suggest it as a great food.

I was thinking the same Pelicano about the natures own food being the same as the woodlands range!

The makers of the all natural guinea pig food sent me a £3 off voucher as they dont do samples.

Will post any new finds here.... If any. :)

I use only nautrals guinea food and my guys love it, I feed as a treat more than a main food
