Hi all

Just a quick query.

Is it safe to give guinea pigs apples? My guinea pig book states that you can't give guinea pigs apple because of the acid in them but I always thought you could?

What does everyone else think?

Apples or no apples?! That is the question?! :)) x

Apples are fine, but feed in moderation and cut into smallish chunks - this way the acid has much less contact time with the lips, reducing the chance of mouth sores.

Pretty much the same as everyone else. One apple, twice a week between all my pigs (which can vary between 6 and 14!) x

My boys only have apples as a treat & a change to their usual foods (or when I have run out of everything else & need to go to the shops!mallethead)

They really do love it when they have it, but it is no more than once a week & usually a bit less than that!

Hopefully your piggies will love the taste of a crunchy apple too! :)):))

Yes, in moderation, perhaps as a treat. Apples can be very acidic and can cause sores around their mouths.

Some of mine like apples, others won't touch them. Guess, some apples taste better than others.

Yes, mine just get a big of apple twice a week if I have any in so it's not every week. To be honest, my guinea pigs don't get a lot of fruit - it's mostly vegetables. They normally just get a bit of fruit if I've been eatting something and I give them a share of it.
