Apple drops for guinea pigs, contain milk? o.O

As far as I was aware feeding any animal milk was a potentially dangerous thing, we had problems with our cats because their dry food had milk in, and now I've discovered these apple drops I recently bought also contain milk and milk derivatives, is this safe to feed to my guinea pigs?

Why would companies put milk in foods if it's potentially not safe, or do they actually treat the milk before putting it in the pet foods?

No, you're right, they shouldn't have milk. I doubt it would kill them, but it won't be "good" for them.

I've given yoghurt drops etc. before (the current Head Pig doesn't like them though, so they're irrelevant in my house now!), maybe one every week or less. It's basically guinea pig junk food -- the odd occasion isn't going to cause immediate harm, but as Shellza said, not "good" for them, no.

It probably WILL be treated, to be fair -- like that lactose-free cat milk you can get. In fact, it probably has to be in order to keep from going off in those little packets for so long if nothing else.

Actually, my interest is now piqued. I might e-mail a company or two and ask them why they include milk and if it's treated or is lactose-free..... I called a company who makes some wooden chew toys to ask what kind of wood it was once. They were baffled, but to their credit, they did find out and get back to me! Asking random production-line questions is kinda fun.

Pets at home did these apple drops (for some reason, doesn't surprise me they contain milk)
Yogurt isn't so bad, the bacteria used in yogurt munches most of that problematic lactose, it's the fact that it's just milk, not yogurt or anything saying it's lactose free etc.
I think contacting a few companies might be a plan, I may well do the same in fact as i really don't understand how they can think it's a good idea, more to the point, why is there nobody regulating what goes into pets foods?
