Reading through the threads and I saw that piggies can have Apple and pear branches.
I have both in my field so would it be safe to literally snap off a small branch and put into their pen? I’m assuming this is only when in leaf?
Does it need washing first...never been sprayed/treated with chemicals as my horses have access to them, but wondering about bird poo 🤔
How often could they have this?
Sorry for all the questions 😁

Yes Apple and pear branches can be given.
It does not need to be only when in leaf. Piggies with chew the bark off the wood and can also eat the leaves. However apple leaves are higher in calcium so keeping leaves to a minimum and as a treat is best.
Give them a wash, make sure lichen etc is brushed off.
My boys certainly all love an apple branch!

Don’t be sorry for asking questions - we are all here to help!

Hi

Yes, apple and pear branches are safe for guinea pigs.

The leaves are however quite high in calcium; my own piggies had quite massive calcium pees when we offered them apple branches from my mother-in-law's garden. I would definitely not recommend feeding leaves on a regular basis and only occasionally in small quantities as a special treat.
