The apple tree sticks I ordered online arrived, and they came from China.

With seeing the recent news.. the markets with live animals and bats to eat etc.. I'm wondering if the sticks are safe for the pigs.

Should I quarantine the sticks? 😁

You're probably ok not to, I don't think germs would survive long in transit if they were there in the first place:xd:
But if I were in your position, I wouldn't buy them again - the airmiles/ carbon footprint must be horrendous, for something that surely could be produced here in the UK :fog:

My Christian loves the odd apple twig! It was fresh off my friend's tree though.

I've never looked at other people's children and wished I had that child but I'm always looking at other people's guinea pigs and thinking I want that piggy! Christian is too gawjus!

Another Christian fan! He is a very lovely piggy. Full of mischief and then a look that says "It wasn't me!"

I don't have space for that but you've reminded me I live near a park which has an orchard. They run apple harvest days. I shall go investigate ..
If you could find out who looks after the orchard, you could ask if you could have some of the prunings when they trim the apple trees.

I just collect willow twigs from the trees in our local park. As i am a member of 'Friends of the Park' i know that they have not been treated with anything and no one minds me doing a bit of ad-hoc pruning.. The piggies love them, especially at the moment as they are new growth with lots of leaf buds.

I do the same - I harvest bits and pieces from the local area where i am 100% confident they haven't been sprayed or treated.
All of mine will eat fresh twigs, but have no interest in the pet store bundles.
Orchards are tricky becasue it is highly likely the trees were sprayed at some point, and even if it was months ago this wood should never be given to piggies.

So many good ideas.

I phoned the local orchard and they do have some clippings which they haven't managed to dispose of due to wet weather. I asked whether they're organic and the park manager said that pesticide has not been used in the orchard for 50 years.

Result! I can throw away the long travelled Chinese sticks.

That's great!
Just one thing though - is the orchard only apple trees? I believe that piggies shouldn't have stone fruit eg plums and damsons, and I've always assumed that included the leaves and the twigs too.

Thanks yes it's just an apple orchard, they make organic apple juice and have apple harvest fun days 👍
