Apples?

Hello!
My boys do not have a sweet tooth, however one of them, (Pumpkin) quite likes apple. I fed it to him the other day, then subsequently read it can cause sore lips. Admittedly he had some loose skin on his lower lip about a week afterwards, but this may be a coincidence. I have read elsewhere that it is ok. What do I believe?

Fruit is very acidic so should only be given as a treat and maybe once or twice a week..mine love watermelon rinds

My two have a piece of apple peel a couplenof times a week with no ill effects.

I share an apple with my 4 once a week. I have half and cut the other half up between them. The rest of the week I have to eat apples upstairs or outside as the piggies go mad if they can smell it. Apple too often is not good for them but it's ok as a treat.

I don't give my guineas much fruit (they do like apple though). The last week I've been giving them one blueberry each when I say goodnight. Is this ok to do every night? It is a very small amount, and is the only fruit they've been getting, but just a bit worried that doing it every day might be bad for their wee lips.

Id think a small one daily would be okay it's also the high sugar in fruits that isn't good as well ..

I rarely offer fruits and only as a little treat, but when I eat an apple my Calipso always nibbles a little piece, she likes especially the peel. I am talking of Granny Smith, the green apple which is not sweet at all; anyway I have never noticed any ill effects. I only prefer not giving fruits for other reasons (sugars and effects on making more alcaline the ph of urine, already very alcaline in guinea pigs). But a very little piece cannot be harmful. I am sure that the sore lips you have noticed (one week later!) was only a coincidence. Don't be worried...

I give my piggies apple once a week, either a piece or a small pile of peels and they love it with also no affect. Sometimes I swap the apple with banana skin which they also love.

Well I was hoping it was a coincidence, cos Snuffles didn't have any lip troubles. Pumpkin will be pleased, I think he was a bit worried it was no apples for him!
