My boys adore apples. :smitten: I've read that you should give them to them in small chunks to discourage mouth sores but how much apple can I give each one and how often? ?
Suey

I don't know what the recomended amount is, but I usualy give them a slice of apple each (small for the younger one) once a week The only thing they refuse to take much of is orange.

Mine get 2 small chucks each once or twice a week, they'll both dive in the bowl to get to them first ;D

I give mine a little cube about twice a week depending on what else I have given them. If they have had tomatoes that week or another fruit I may give it a miss or give it just once.

I gave my 2 apple for the first time last night, only 2 small pieces as I was worried about sores on their mouths, they also loved it,even ate the apple before their broccoli which they usually eat first

I tried my two piggies with apple and they don't seem to like it, they always leave it in the bowl.

hey, mine get apple once a week, if they love apple that much you can buy apple cubes/pellets which have the flavour but not the acidity level

I used to give my guineas apples every day as a treat but one got a nasty mouth infection the vet said it was the apples and went though abot the ssores that can apear, so i would advice a little bit a week,

Mine enjoy apples (in fact they are having a bit tomorrow) but I feed it very irregularely due to the acid in an apple O0 (I didn't know apples have acid until I kept piggies)

Thanks all, once or twice a week it is then. I'm interested in the apple flavoured pellets though, where might I find them?
Suey

you can get a product called apple snacks made by excel, I think that it is a mixture of dried apple and herbs. You should be able to by it in most petshops.

its a shame they cant have them often as we have a large apple tree in the garden!

the apple pellets are 100% dreid apple made into pellets with nothing else added i got mine from www.bunnybasics.net and i think pampered piggies sell them too which is www.pameperedpiggies.co.uk, they also have nettle pellets which mine have, none of piggies seem overly interested in the apple pellets for some reason, and I'm still awaitng a new box of nettle pellets after bunnybasics didnt pack them properly and the box burst open all over everything else and covered everything in dust etc, i complained so I'm awaiting a new box to be sent out to me, shall let u know how they get on with those.

I have heard that the core is poisonous, anybody know?

no the core isnt poisonus..quite often i eat an apple and give them the core, your not meant to give them seeds but i always do, i dont think mine bother eating them though lol

Apparently the seeds are poisonous but ive never had any problems with my pigs eating the core. but i dont give them too much because of like you all say the acidity levels.

If anyone wants to try apple pellets or anything like that, cubes etc do email me and i can send you a small sample
I test everything on my 10 piggies so if they dont eat it it doesnt go in the shop, but obviously that doesnt guarentee that all yours will eat them!

In fact for the offer of the week starting sunday Ill do some small sample bags with no minimum spend so that way if you want to try things you can.

Id rather you all tried a little bit of something and find out if your pigs like it rather than waste money as this defetes the object of me encouraging people to try natural affordable treats.

Just email me if you have any q's about anything :) I'm a nice person really and will help where i can ;)

I give my piggie a little bit of apple once or twice a week, he seems to like it a lot! :)
