Archie and Bernard had a bath this morning. It went relatively well. Bernard had a hair cut before it and gave me the look of horror kids get when a mother brings out the bowl for a bowl cut.

I like to wash them in the bath tub and a plastic basin. The basin is where I shampoo them, the water is deeper in this so I support their body.

The bath has warm water that they can walk around in. I let them stand in that for a bit (so glad my house has ducted heating) and start to relax into the whole being wet thing.

I wash them one at a time in the tub and rinse them back in the bath.

This is Archie after a rinse, he is sitting in my palm and actually much closer to the base of the bath than he looks in the pic

I use a warmed towel, to towel dry them. While they dont exactly love it tey seem relatively relaxed.

Both pigs are now 98% dry and demolishing greens, in a run in a warm room.

They love the cuddles and nom noms after. I'm not sure if i'm doing it right but it does seem to work. They do these weird little hopping hair shakes that i'm guessing are like dogs after they have a bath.

I have since heard a towel in the bottom of the bath tub helps. I'll give it a go when I wash them again in a month or two

Archie looks adorable with his little wet face. I can't hold my Hazelnut in the front like on your first photo as he now takes that as a perfect op to run up my arm. I need a new hand hold!

Wonder if you could hold him from behind with him resting on your forarm and your fingers near his chest, probably still akward.

I was using one of those high sided flexible round plastic tubs before i tried the bath- Bernard and Howard both tried to get out during early baths.

I can't get over how calm Bernard seems in that water, while Archie runs about. It even looked like Archie was about to mount Bernard at the end! He certainly seems confident negotiating that water.

Yes I will have to try that hold. I cannot put my arm at his front any more. But that's interesting about the bucket. I wonder if your boys are calmer because a tub is so much larger.

Archie was about to mount Bernard, he tried it on a couple of times.

I'm not sure about the size of the tub, letting them walk around abit first, seems to have helped rather than going right into the washing part. the first bath i gave Howard and Bernard was bad, i had no idea what to do.

I just looked at what I posted again, it was prior the wash part :red

I'll have to try letting them walk around in the water first. The laundry sink is very large. It's worth a try as maybe they are traumatised by my trying to shampoo them right away.

I use a shower head attachment to gently spray their backside and, come to think of it, it's while I'm applying the shampoo that Hazelnut tries to escape because that's when my left arm is in front of his face.

actually the boys have been getting better since i started using a small jug to pour the water over their backs, that way I have more control over how wet they get. That could be something as well

I lay the girls over my hand .........but towards the tap and head up my arm......then gently rinse off the shampoo. But i only do butt baths, i did a full bath once and within days Velvet had a URI so i'm paranoid now :...

Will try the jug instead of the shower spray. You're right it could be much gentler. But I think you're onto something with the idea of first allowing them time to get used to the water. And the other thing is I do my boys one a time but I am going to try both together like you do. All very helpful ideas here. Thanks.

Will try that hand hold. I've only been doing butt baths recently myself because i've heard they don't need baths unless they get mucky and really the only bit that gets consistently mucky on boys is that grease gland.

But the URI worries me as many piggies on this forum seem to get that. Do you think it is because of the time spent in the water for a full bath or the shampoo all over or the amount of water to rinse it all off or what?

Awww soggy piggies x)
