Hi

Just wondered what you thought... In general it seems that boys tend to smell more than girls (in the animal world! aherm!) What do you all think? ?

I am not sure whether to get boys or girls... But if they smell less I will be more inclined to get girls! ;)

Well...apparently they are supposed to, but I can't say i've noticed with my boar. Suppose it depends on the guinea?

only if they get over-excited I think, when they spray which smells vile!!

:) :)

lol - I don't want to get sprayed then!

Its not a shower like male rabbits lol! But you know they have done it because you can smell it! And if they have been over amorous with another piggy the other piggy will be wet?! Don't know about neutered ones, not likely to find out either!

I kept girls when I was little and now have 3 boys. In general I don't reckon they are smellier. The only time they do really smell is when they get sexy with each other and leave an awful awful smell behind - yuk yuk yuk!

they don't get it on me though thankgoodness :D

Misty, Sooty and Brandy are a bit smelly but Buttons is fine. Depends on the piggie I think.

Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't rule out getting boys... I suppose it depends which piggies are available and which ones I fall in love with! :smitten:

I only ask because I had 8 rats before and they smelt sooooo bad (!) even after cleaning them out 3 times a week etc... they were boys and I know male rats smell more than girls so I just wondered if the same thing applied to guineas... :)

When mine scent somewhere it absolutely pongs. Whe I first smelt it, I was hunting for my sons smelly socks everywhere. They drag their bottoms along the floor when they smell where my other piggies have been and leave a horrid stink behind ;D

Ive had four boys and two girls in the past and i definitely think that boys pong a lot more. However, ive also found my boys to be a lot friendlier than my females so it does work both ways.

Out of all the piggies I have ever owned and that quite a few ;D the Boars have always smelt its not offensive no tell a fib Pumpkin,Flash and Blaze where awfully smelly. So was Wiggy and Rusty too come to think of it. But I think Boars are cheekier and all the boars I have had here where more loving :)

Oh yes, Cobweb can smell rather musky at times but he's a big loveable lump! He gets a bath around once a month anyway. My other boy, Pigpig, has only just reached the 12 wheek mark and smells lovely and piggie fresh... only time will tell if he'll be whiffy.

I've never had boys but my girlies don't smell! They smell lovely actually :) their cage can get a bit pongy if its not cleaned out twice a week, not overly pongy just a bit of a wiff which tells you it needs cleaning! but the piggies themselves don't smell haha x

The boys definitely smell different but I wouldn't say it was any stronger than the girls. I've not noticed that one sex is more friendly than the other. Think it all depends on how used to you they are, the more you handfeed them with treats the more they love you!

The way to a guinea's heart is definitely through their tums! (bit like husband actually).
