Are carrots better with or without skin?

I have a couple pigs and i always wondered if it makes any difference if a carrot has skin or no skin when feeding them?
 
I always peel carrots before giving them, mine wont eat them with skins on, fussy ! They love carrot tops though - the green bits.
 
I don't bother peeling them and it never crossed my mind that it may not be OK to give them the skin? Wondering now if it is OK! I haven't read anywhere that exclusively says only feed peeled carrots.
 
The skin will do them no harm, just as with any veggies, salad, fruit etc wash it first.

i just peel mine as they wont eat the skin.
 
I'm normally peeling although my ones are in love with there veg so they probably wouldn't notice the difference Its always been something i wondered about
 
Mine don't really care for carrot, they'll have it if there's nothing else and even then would have to be practically starving first! I give them as is, I don't bother peeling them
 
Mine eat the middle and leave the edges (skin) in a big pile by their food bowl :))
 
My piggies get the peel and ends when I'm preparing carrots for me and my OH to eat, they're not fussy and it reduces waste. The only reason we peel carrots is the because the skin can be slightly bitter (and it's the easiest way to remove dirt). There are nutrients in/just under the skin that are lost through peeling, so supposedly they're actually better with the skin on. Don't quote me on the science of that though, there's probably a great carrot peeling debate going on somewhere and I don't know what the ultimate truth is. :)
 
My Alfie loves carrot, he's actually throwing it in the air as I'm typing this! Hehe
 
I have never peeled carrots for my piggies but then I don't for myself either. At uni my studies revolved around Taoism and the outer (yang) layer of food was as important to eat as the inner (yin) for balance. I'm sure Taoism didn't recommend stuffing your face with mini eggs so have no idea why I have stuck with this lol :))
