Or do they settle down at a certain time and stay asleep all/most of the night?

If you are thinking of having piggies in a bedroom I personally wouldn't - many members do though and find it ok.

They don't sleep all night, they do tend to be quieter and potter about less, they will get up and drink from the bottle so that can be noisy. Early morning popcorning can be lovely to wake up to, but not at 4 in the morning. The alarm clock soon becomes their signal that food is coming and they will nag from the moment you open your eyes.

Thanks for your reply. It wouldn't be bedroom housing but we have a large alcove, or want of a better word, on the landing in the centre of the house. It's big enough to take a 5ft by 2ft hutch so they'd have lots of space. Just didn't know whether they would keep us awake or not! Biggest space we have for them indoors though.

i have my guinea pig in my room she normally starts running about at about 6 30 am ( i am normally awake then ) but saying that i have 2 mice in my room they drove my sister mad when she stayed over i must just not hear them so she might wake up in the night :)

We are up by that time as my six year boy is a very early riser and hubby gets up that early to go to work too!

Mine have just spent the winter in the spare room next to my bedroom. And they aint quiet.

They squeek when they hear us coming up the stairs.
They squeek when I go for a wee in the night.
They squeek when I have to get up at 0530 for work.
They squeek at each other (trio of boars) for no reason.
You can hear the water bottle clonking about at night
I can hear them playing and rumbling at each other mallethead mallethead
