Are MidWest cages good?

Hello!
I have two boars and am wondering if there cage is appropriate. I have two MidWest cages attached together by ramp. Each cage is 24’’ by 47’’. They used to be in a living world cage which I quickly realized was way too small. They seem to like it and are getting a lot more exercise.

Two Midwest cages together for two boars meets more than the recommended cage size for two boars.

Boars are more territorial and require a larger cage then two sows. They also need to have multiple hides and each hide needs two exits (don’t use any single exit hides as they have the potential to cause problems if one piggy traps the other inside).

The only potential issue is the ramp between them if the ramp is only wide enough to be used by one piggy at a time through a single opening. It has the potential to be an area of issue if they can’t pass each other in opposite directions without coming head on with each other. But that is going to depend on how the piggies are with each other, how old they are etc (teenagers are going to be more prone to these kinds of issues)

Without seeing the cage though we can’t make specific comment any adjustments which may be helpful but purely on measurements two Midwest cages together is big enough.

Hi, I used to have this set-up for my three sows and it provided ample space. I only changed it to C&C cage when one of my girls developed arthritis and she’d have to build herself up to getting over the ramp when she was stiff! This obviously won’t be an issue if your boars are young but just wanted to highlight this.

I kept two boars in a pair of Midwest cages without a problem, it made it much easier for cleaning too because they could stay on one side with the ramp up while I did the other side.

You can also remove one side panel from each and cut down the two corners of canvas to join them together as one large space instead of having the ramp. I currently have 3 joined like this and will doing another double next year. Theres a video on youtube of someone showing how they did theirs
