Hi all, as per the title really....I just wondered if my little ones are a bit wierd by wheeking and popcorning when i give them fresh water?

I wash out and refill their water bottles at least once a day (often twice if the weather's warm or they seem to be drinking a lot) and they wheek at the top of their lungs when I walk towards the cages with the newly refilled bottles in my hands and then they all take it in turns to drink from the bottles, popcorning around the cage like loonies!

I occasionally put some probiotic in the water, just as a change/treat really, but it's normally just cold plain water.

Does anyone else's piggy wheek and popcorn for water, or are my lot just a hyper-excitable bunch? :))

Tracey x

No, mine don't do that, they occasionally do it when i'm giving there bowls off food! It might just be the case of them getting excited about having fresh water or maybe getting excited by thinking your giving the probiotics, as they probably love it:)

They do love the probiotic, but I only give it to them about once or twice a week - too much sugar! They go just as mad for plain water tho....they're a bit special, bless them! :))

Awww, happy piggies! Mine get excited over everything too, but not water! :))

Aww, that is so cute. You have such happy little piggies. :)

I've noticed mine do for hay, especially my boar Robin and my sow Daisy :) when they hear the bag, it's all the squealing, but when the hay is put in their hutches, they go crazy lol

Awww, it's lovely to know they're so happy.....as well as the fresh water frenzy, I have an ever-growing list of things that get them over-excited......
  • me walking in the room (obviously they think I'm coming armed with something yummy to eat)
me coming down the stairs (don't know why?)
me closing the back door (I think they associate that with fresh grass from the garden)
me closing the fridge (obvious why rolleyes)
me giving them fresh hay (Squeak especially, he really loves his hay!)
me cleaning them out (they know they get half-hour of "tear round the place at breakneck speed" floor-time)
    me giving them fresh veggies
me replacing their dirty fleeces/vetbed with freshly washed ones
my OH opening a crisp packet (yeah, he can't even have a packet of crisps in peace)

Basically, it's ear-splitting wheeking in our house most of the time.....

Gotta love them little wheekers!

I have one like this, Fuzzy knows when its fresh water, barges his way through and drinks for at least 3 minutes straight, loves it lol.

Mine are a nightmare like that, i think they come to associate everythign with food, they've started wheeking when I come downstairs in the morning, they live opposite the fridge so you can guess what happens if you ever go near that lol! rolleyes
And the same with packets, if you rustle ANYTHING they go beserk!

That sounds like normal guinea-pig attention-seeking whistles more than anything else, they want food mainly lol, pigs only ever think with their mouths and stomachs!

Bags rustling, the patio or back doors being unlocked/opened, someone cutting up things on the chopping board... my pigs whistle over a lot of things too lol, especially when dinner is being prepared and my dad spares them the storks of broccoli and the odd carrot left over now lol

They like to remind you they're still there :)) they don't let you forget!
