Ive been thinking they don't eat as much hay as I expected they would. They have it in the big ferplast hay box thing on the side of the cage. They know where it is I've seen them eating it and even standing on their back legs to eat stuff from the top. They also have it stuffed in a kitchen roll with holes in hanging from the side of the cage. The first night they were here they emptied the kitchen tube totally of hay but they haven't done since. If I grab and handful of hay and put it right in front of where they are chilling they tuck in no problem! Are they just being lazy about making the effort to go and get some?! I don't want to constantly cover the floor in it cos a) they are on fleece so it's very messy and b) I fear they will just soil it all as they wander about!
How much hay do yours eat and do they constantly go and get it or would they rather it was just plonked under their noses?!
Thanks
I've got one of the ferplast cages too and mine have the hayrack on the side filled at least twice a day but I think mine are greedy! They have veggies twice a day too as well as their dried nuggets.......:aJFBQ00147070110B:!
Mine aren't all that bothered . I think they're quite lazy as all they do is sleep. If I refill the hayrack they'll run over, but after a minute or two will just go back to bed I also have a hay loft (one of those cardboard crates that fresh veg come in) and some cardboard boxes stuffed with hay so they can sleep and scoff at the same time! Archie is the only one that would prefer to sleep in a cosy bed than a box of hay.
Hi, my 4 seem to be quite lazy too! They would much prefer hay to be taken right to them rather than go to the hay rack!
I always make sure the hay rack is full and give them toilet rolls stuffed with hay too. Sometimes i put a pile of hay in the middle of the cage on an old tea towel or left over piece of fleece. This way it can just be shaken outside afterwards
I must say they LOVE a big heap of hay to play in
