As it says in the question :)
I do irish dancing, and about 4 times a year for big competitions we have to travel alot and stay over in hotels for 1 night usually, so two ish days, actually probably just one day cause i'd give them the veggie before i left, and the evening when i got back; i should be getting piggies this year, or early next year, so wondering would they be able to go without veggies for a day or two? I can trust my sister to fill water, hay, pellets and what not, but i doubt she'd go out of her way for veggies, its alot more complicated for piggies! than hamsters!:))

When I've had to go away and leave a friend to pop in and feed them I've filled tupperware boxes of veggies with labels on for each pig / day so she could just pop it straight in for them. Could your sister do that if it's only a couple of days?

It's not going to kill them no. Pigs in pet shops don't get veg & thats for weeks at a time Altho that is of course not ideal.

They'll not like you much for it, but I doubt it will do them any great harm for 2 days...

I leave a pre prepared box for my mum if I stay at my bfs. You could do that or leave a lettuce in fridge & ask her to give them a bit? Least it's something...

That's a good idea about having the veg prepared. :)

But it shouldn't do them any harm to go without veg for a few days. They would be going mad squeaking for veg though :))

Mine went like a week without veg in December cos I was really sick and barely had the energy to give them food, water and hay. rolleyes

Going without veg for a day or 2 here and there occasionally wont hurt them but it's important that they do get a good variety of fresh veg, salad and fruit in their diet daily for the rest of the time.

Leaving them a sealed container of veg for their 'piggy sitter' to give then sounds like an excellent idea but make sure you leave it in the fridge especially in the summer and tell whoever is looking after them to take it out a couple of hours before feeding.

I will :) I'd leave like a list of instructions - they drink loads dont they also? so that'd have to be filled up daily - id go mental at my sister if she didnt look after them properly.

Another question - when we go on holiday to ireland, they will most definetley be coming with me, i wouldnt like to leave them in the car while were on the ferry (cars are on the bottom deck) and in fact i doubt we'd have room for them to go stay in there cage while in the car it'd have to go in the boot, do you think the ferry people would mind piggies on the ferry- the part where we go? I wouldnt get them out of course, couldnt stand the thought of losing them! or would i just sneak in the little carrier ;)

Can't see why it would bother people, people carry cats on don't they? Not sure as I've never done it tho... X

I think they should be OK in a carrier; they prefer it snug and dark. Make sure that you feed them well before you set out; tmost piggies are too frightened to eat when they are not used to travelling.

When we go away for the weekend, I always chop up the veg and leave it in labelled icecream boxes in my fridge. I also add what other jobs to like filling up pellets and hay or change the water on that label. It's a pretty idiot proof system and has worked with whichever neighbour I can ask, especially if we have to go on short notice.

For longer absences, I have a found a petsitter who will come once a day, as boarding 11 piggies has become too expensive. I used to do that when I had just 2.

Joanne (Flintstones) can probably tell you about Irish Ferries, I think she has done that trip. They would be ok without veggies as everyone has said, but salad bags would be great. xx
